green light at the end of the ferry's funnel

Also, someone on my tour mentioned Bikesure did a green card for his T7.
Just looked them up and sure enough, Mk is listed:

Don't know cost, but about to insure a bike and may try Bikesure and confirm an Mk green card is for real, no strings and how much.

Technically a green card is only proof that you have the minimum insurance legally required to drive ina country. If insurance is fully comp then it’s not really a green card (but if you can get it better than 3rd party only)

Insurers also can only charge an admin fee for issuing a green card. If they charge more they are in breach of the legal agreements.

Hi Warden:

You are correct, but those of us who are very familiar with European / North African "out of home country" insurance matters need to be careful to not unintentionally confuse the newbies who are researching insurance for the first time.

As you stated, the "green card" (green colour standardized proof of insurance document that is accepted in many different countries) can be issued by an insurer when the policy only provides the minimum legally required liability insurance, with no theft, collision, medical, etc. coverage. A "green card" can also be issued, in exactly the same format and with no changes whatsoever, if the insurance policy is a really comprehensive one that covers everything from nuclear war to birds crapping on the panniers.

The insurance companies that most of us here on the HUBB use to insure our non-European (or UK) motorcycles when riding in Europe or North Africa include the "green card" document automatically, as part of the price charged for the policy. That's because the only reason we are purchasing the policy is to get the "green card" to prove that we carry the minimum legally required insurance.

Some UK insurers might charge a small additional administrative fee to provide the "green card" document to their policyholders, even though the policy does already cover the vehicle in countries other than the UK, and even though that UK-issued policy might cover more than the minimum legal requirement for insurance.

I'm not disagreeing with you in any way, I'm just trying to ensure that a newcomer who reads your post does not get confused about something that they have no need to consider.

Green Cards also no longer need to be Green, that requirement was dropped a while back. But in Morocco the police will still ask for you carte verte.

Most Uk insurers won’t automatically cover anything outside of the EU region. NFU have now added Morocco to the policy information but you still need to request a Green Card from them before travel.
