uae to uk

can any one give advice on riding back from uae to uk ?

dave beadle 11 Nov 2012 21:44

My plan is to ship my bike from the UK to Dubai and then ride it back through Iran, Turkey for sure and then take the route has it comes in Europe. I am planning to do this mid February next year. My concerns are visas and paperwork, personal safety - bearing in mind we now don't have Embassy presence?? Any thoughts would be great and appreciated.

Dave,
I did this trip at the end of March/beginning of April this year. If you want to have a chat please pm me for my telephone number and I'll tell you what I know.
Cheers,
J

Thanks for your input. I am just picking up on how welcoming you people are in Iran. I'm in the early stages of organising my trip, can you advise on the climate Feb/March and what route would you suggest?

Dunno when you planned to reach eastern Turkey, but I do know that it usually has seriously cold winter, so that might be something to remember. Also northwest Iran, and parts of Europe (even in the south), may sometimes have winter weather. But eastern part of Turkey is critical.

dave beadle 21 Nov 2012 22:18

Saleh thanks very much for your note. Do you know what the implications would be for shipping bike into Dubai and exporting to Iran? Do you think there will be any issues with riding through Iran, Iraq, Turkey with a UK registered bike?
Cheers

Pecha thanks for that. The issue I have is that I want to do it at the beginning of the year Feb/March time - good weather through Iran, but appreciate possible climate issues through Turkey. May have to comprise with this colder weather has once through Turkey seems to settle down temperature wise?
Have you any stories to tell ref security riding through Iran/Iraq and Turkey.
Cheers

From Dubai

Hi Dave
no issue and its easy and simply process to enter the bike into UAE, just need your CartNet documents and then you take a ferry to Iran (Bander Abbas) then Turkey. but make sure no snow on the Iran-Turkey border.
riding throw Iraq is not recommender ay all. for your safety and nothing to see there.
Regards
Saleh

We had no problems at all in Iran or Turkey. The people were so warm and friendly it was just incredible.. in Iran, we even got invited to stay with a local family in Esfahan, we just simply met them on the road, and they treated us like old friends. Really an eye-opening experience! Turkey was also just fantastic, though we did not stay there for long (was the end of October, so winter was coming). We did not visit Iraq. It seems like the north is somehow accessible nowadays.

In Iran, some areas east of Bam, and close to the Afghan/Pakistani border were considered a bit suspicious, and I believe they still are. Note, that our trip was +5 years ago, so things could have changed... but if you wanna read, there´s something about our trip in English here:

Hi Saleh
Just in the early stages of planning. Listening to everyone and checking out climates early part of the year. Now decided to travel back mid March has prior to that it would not be so enjoyable through Turkey and the rest of Europe is only just warming up. I'm in the process of sorting our my Carnet with the RAC in the UK. If you could give me your thoughts on the procedure and potential issues shipping my UK registered bike into the UAE. Would you anticipate any customs issues? I have already sorted a shipping agent who can ship the bike out at a very competitive price.
Saleh your input would be appreciated.
Cheers Dave

Hi Dave

Hi Dave
end of March will be suitable time to depart Europe and the weather in UAE will be suitable as our summer heat will start end of May.

back to your question, will you ship the bike throw air fright or sea fright.
in both situation the custom clearing in the airport is an easy process and its will take a maximum of 2 hours to clear the bike. if its sea fright it will take little more time.

please advice if you need additional information
Regards
Saleh

Hi Saleh
Hope you are having a good Christmas break. The beginning of the year I am going to firm things up re my trip back to the UK. I was just wondering if you could assist with one or two queries I have. Firstly, am I right in thinking there is only one ferry from Sharjah to Iran and have you any idea whether it can be pre-booked. Does it run all year? Secondly, on arrival in Iran I understand specific insurance to travel in Iran is required - is this possible to pre-book or is it something that you need to get on arrival only. If you had any contacts if pre-booking is available. Finally, I have a route in mind which I am calculating my daily distances with reference to stopping overnight. Have you done this route before and if so, could you recommend a route to me. Would it be possible to have your email address has I have contacts in Dubai and just wondered if you knew of them.
Thanks for your help,
Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,
Been getting settled in here over the last weeks, so have not paid much attention to the HUBB, or similar sites, but i see that you are getting your plans in place for the trip, so well done with that.
Regarding your questions to Saleh in Dubai, i may be able to add my input to his answers and i have the number of someone in Bannder Abbas who might help with the importation process there, as it is really complicated and nearly no one i found in the offices spoke any English, but this guy does.
Anyway, mail me to my private address and i'll tell you what i can.
Have a good new year celebaration.
Cheers,
J
