Kle 400

Hi,

Can anyone please give me some advice on their experience with the KLE 400. I'm interested in buying a dual purpose type bike and I can get a '94 KLE400 on a private deal. What must I look out for, what is a good price to pay, how powerful is it comparing to the KLE500 and KLR650, what topspeed is it capable of. I weigh 85kg and is about 1.8m tall, will the bike be comfortable on and off-road. I will really appreciate any info and advice

Hi

Hi,
Am new in the world of KLE500's with a spanky new 2006 model.
I have tried downloading the manual, but Ozhanu's seems to be a .RAR file, not a clue how to read it, all the others either don't recognise the link or are in a language I cannot understand! Can anyone put a link up for an easy to read manual for the Luddites amongst us !!
cheers

ozhanu 3 Nov 2007 00:05

Hi,

it was in rar format. rar is a very common compression format and software. it works like winzip. i think you know what winzip is. you simply upload and install winrar to you computer and that is. the language of the server is english. i dont know how you managed to see different language.

anyway, i have also uploaded pfd format of the manual just now.

click to the following link to download for beginners:)

http://rtw.ozhanu.com/docs/kle500manual.pdf to download. It is 7.2mB and takes a bit of time to open it.

hope this works for you.

enjoy

Hi Buddy,

I've got a 400, got it Jan 06, and have put 27000 kms on since. I'm about the same weight/height as you, and have been very happy with the bike.

I commute with it every day, and have also used it for some longer trips, the longest being a recent 5 day trip from Cape Town to Hogsback in the Eastern Cape and back. The 400 does not like an uphill and a headwind at the same time, speed drops to 80-90 km/h, but does not really go below that. It makes no diff if you drop it to 5th and guns it, just stays there. Ave fuel consumption on the trip was about 16-17km/l due to the higher speed and being loaded with luggage.

Otherwise my fuel economy is about 19-20km/l average. I don't really take the bike over 120, but on the trip to Hogsback it cruised easily at 130 for long times. At 130 the revs on mine is sitting at 7500, still a way to go before the red line.

I had some progressive springs fitted in the front forks, and it made the soft front end a hell of a lot better.

I think the KLE's engine is tougher in construction than the KLR, although not stronger ito power and torque. And that twin is nice and smooth.

Pleco also on this forum also has a 400, and he outruns me with a pillion on and me single on my bike, but he likes to take the revs to 9000 before changing gears, I like to change at about 5000-6000.

I hope this gave you some information.

Cheers,
Nicki
