1st Aid Volunteering

Hi all,
Perhaps one of the HUBBUK 2018 organisers can answer my question....
The last HUBBUK I attended was when it was still at Donnington in 2014 so it’s time I attended another.
I’ve never volunteered before and I see in the registration process that you’re looking for volunteers with a First Aid qualification. I have a current TQUK Level 2 in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF). Is that qualification appropriate for what you need?

romeo one 31 Mar 2018 21:12

Spare ticket

I have a friend who has a ticket for the four days but can no longer come so if someone would like a four day ticket for £50 let me know.

Grant Johnson 10 Apr 2018 20:03

That qualification is great! ANY First Aid level is of interest, so yes please.

see you there, Grant

Hi,
Can anyone give me any information as to whether there are any bunk spaces still available?
I am already booked in as a camper but a recent road traffic accident and three fractured vertebrae means that I would prefer the relative comfort of a mattress.
If anyone knows the answer or could point me in the direction of someone that does it would be much appreciated.

day visit

Hi how can i buy 2 tickets for just a day visit, it'll be mine and the wife's first time so just wanted to drop in for the day. very interested indeed.

i've looked at the site but can't find any information regarding just buying tickets for 1 day

Thanks in advance

Ram

Antipodean 31 May 2018 15:29

I've managed to screw up my shoulder recently, so will have to drive instead of ride. And I'll need a bunk instead of camping, as originally planned.

Can someone advise how I go about adding dorm accommodation to my existing registration, please?

Hi Mick and Ram
I am 99% sure the only option is to book a weekend pass Friday to Sunday
the explanation was given 11 threads down "HUBBUK - Saturday Day Visit?" back in 2016.
Hope this helps and fingers crossed you can make it to the HUBB this year.

Dave

Ask Grant or Susan.

Hi Ram, I paid for one person for the whole weekend and shall not now be attending. The policy has been well thought through and decision made against one day visitors. A very special, almost dream-like peace develops at this meeting over a weekend of like minded people mingling and to no small extent due to the gentle natures of Grant and Susan. So. You have my permission to ask if you two could attend for one day in place of my longer payment. Grant seems to be doing massively long hours planning etc etc so perhaps ask Susan who, JUST might be less busy. Maybe. Good luck, Lindsay.

Looking forward to seeing you all again this year!

Day tickets

Bit of a late call but this facebook post suggests that day tickets are now available

I think this could have been announced earlier,

Neil

Biketruck 8 Jun 2018 18:03

I'm single, attractive and very shy...

I was wondering if this event could be where I could find a new wife? The other one left me to join a circus (seriously) - so I'm slightly damaged in that way.

However, I am keen and enthusiastic, and with the help of medication, I could actually be someones great friend and partner to while away those years ahead.

What do you think? Any chance of kopping off at the UK meet? (For any one outside of the UK, 'Kopping off' sounds worst than it is - it just means meeting someone and falling in love - for a set period of time - which could be hours or even weeks. Just thought I better clarify in case you thought I was weird.)

Let me know your thoughts...

Billy x

Fern 8 Jun 2018 21:00

yes, there are at least 5 women that we can introduce you to, including some fiesty blondes ;-)

Biketruck 10 Jun 2018 14:23

GREAT - should be a good weekend then! I'll bring a ring... :)

Benson-1215 17 Jun 2018 20:10

A big thanks to all the team and presenters which made this years HUBB an excellent event.

Two Stroke Cat 19 Jun 2018 21:17

Same from me. 1.st time last year and thought it was the best, but better this year ! Great presenters. Can't praise them enough. Thanks to all who made it happen. Will book for 2019 asap.:clap::clap:

Marshyboy 22 Jun 2018 21:00

Sorry Neil, hope you made it there! Day tickets have always been available at the venue on the day, not in advance. Sorry we didn't make that clear earlier, it's one of those things that "everybody knew" and got missed repeating for those who didn't know! :)

Also of course as noted above, we really don't recommend day passes, and in fact discourage them, as you REALLY need to spend more than a day there to "get" what it's all about. It's not the kind of event that a day pass works for.

Hope that makes sense!

And if it doesn't, it does AFTER you've been there for the whole event!

Neil H 23 Jun 2018 12:47

Grant and Susan

This is a great shame that day tickets have been such a secret.

Earlier in this thread people were asking about them but there was no response from yourselves or any of the organisers.

I myself have enquired at the last 3 events , on behalf of our club members , and have been told at the entry gate that they do not exist and that day visitors would have to pay the full entry..( 2 day )

In fact one of our members was charged for 2 days as a day visitor on the Saturday last year

There is no mention of it on the web site.. A week before the event it was announced on the FB group that day tickets are NOW available

I organise the events for a club who have large overland trucks . We have attended in large numbers for the last three events, but this year decided not to attend for a varety reasons . Mainly the price and the lack of day tickets.

I am afraid that your suggestion of actively discouraging day entry doesn't make sense to me.. The day visitors of today are the campers of the future

Neil

As an impartial 3rd party I would agree with the above, BUT 100% agree with Grant. 1 day really isn't enough to get the full effect. :D

Neil H 23 Jun 2018 18:08

I couldn't agree more.

Doing the full weekend is by far the best experience.

However, some folks can't do the weekend and would love to maybe get there for the Saturday.

I just feel that discouraging people isn't the right way

I wonder if the folks who were asking about day tickets earlier in this thread actually attended or where they actively discouraged, which would be a shame.

That's why when the announcement that day tickets were NOW available was made very late on on the FB group I quickly put it on here to help them and anyone else out.

I hope they got the message and attended and had a great day.

In previous years day tickets have never been available even on the day. I have tried to get them at the gate and been told that they don't exist and the smallest entry was for 2 days.

I think what Grant suggests isnt the reality

. Members of our club who couldn't do the whole weekend have missed out in the past

I have attended several and they are great events

Neil

Grant Johnson 23 Jun 2018 20:56

Hi Neil,

Glad to hear you like the event!

Our "Official Policy" has always been that:
  1. We never turn anyone away. (UNLESS we have notified in advance that it is limited entry and pre-reg only etc)
  2. Day passes have always been available, with the caveat that you pay for "the rest of the event" on entry, and when you leave, go back to the Reg Tent and get a refund on the difference. This is because as you can understand, once someone is in, there is no way to make sure they leave at the end of the day. And we know people have managed to rejig their schedule and stay on!
I suspect the person who paid for two days last year didn't quite get the message on that correctly. We are volunteer run, and sometimes the messages get garbled in translation, so our apologies for that - we will make it clearer next year, AND put it on the webpage for the event.

We do discourage day tickets, trying to get people to come for the whole event or at least a two day pass. We HAVE had issues where someone has come for the day, wandered around and checked out the exhibitors, not gone to presentations and seminars, and concluded it was a crappy event! They just didn't get into it, and misinterpreted what it was all about - and we REALLY don't want that. So it's a bit of damned if you do and damned if you don't situation for us.
Hope that makes sense!

For next year we have already discussed how do we get the 4 wheelers to attend in greater numbers, and would appreciate comments on that. We need more to attend and present, both on trip stories and on technical aspects. We also need a 4 wheels person to become part of the organizing team, to help make it a better event for them. Interested? :)
