Highland Mini Meet 2013

Hi Folks

Angus and I have had a few PM.s regarding this years mini meet in Cannich. We now have our corner of the campsite reserved for another year Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May. Same format as previous years - a ride out on the Saturday and two nights in the pub - what could be better ! Look forward to seeing old friends and some new faces - roll on the spring!

Chizz

maja 20 Jan 2013 02:47

Hi Chizz, another date I can't manage 'cos I'm trapped in the wilds of the Americas; however, I will be back in Scotland from mid June to mid October so if you can organise a meet between those dates, this time I should manage it with my moto. Ride safe.

Milimut1 20 Jan 2013 10:43

Its between my weekends off so as usual I will be there on the Saturday evening, in time for the pub :-).
My weekend off is the bank holiday so we may be up Dornoch way that weekend.
We have holidays for the HUBB Donnington so it looks like a busy May for us.

See you all in May.

angus.h 20 Jan 2013 11:21

Hi Millimut, good to hear you will make it even just for sat night. The Buzzards rally is not at Dornoch this year it will be at the show ground in Muir of Ord same weekend.
Cheers
Angus

A celebrity at the meet, thought you would be panicking/putting finishing touches to your presentation for Donnington

Celebrity plonker... Nothing else.

Knowing me, I'll be writing that presentation in my tent on Thursday night at Donnington. :helpsmilie:

Jake 28 Jan 2013 18:34

Would love to come but still waiting on Surgery on my spine before I can ride again (if it all goes well ) if the surgery comes through in time I will beg borrow or buy a bike and come along but its all beyond my control at the moment - in any case I know it will be a great weekend. If i ain't there i will be thinking of you all. Cheers Jake.

Jake - give us a shout if you still have not had your surgery by then - I could pick you up from the station - and i am sure we could find a proper bed in the Glen ! -

Aye, I'm often amazed myself at what sometimes comes out of the woodwork up this way...

You'll all laugh at my bike cos it's so clean, talk about a wannabe. In my defence my recent Africa trips have been made on other peoples machines like this: A Quick Lap of Botswana (and a bit of Namibia and Zim) - ADVrider

but I'm making plans to ship my GS out to Africa for a longer period than I can usually manage in the not too distant future.:mchappy:

Hi Folks,

I've just recently started using the site again after a few years away.. My last overland trip, and reason for using the site, was 4x4 related. This time, however, I've seen the light and am going for two wheels (although I've still to figure out how Im' going to carry my surf board on the bike!).

Would be great to meet some of you in person. I might pop over from Forres for the day if that's ok?

Cheers

Chizz (Bruce)

Hi Bruce am booked in for some very major spinal surgery last week in March - however I will be in a somewhat poorly state for about 6 weeks post op and fairly housebound then a further 4 to 6 month ongoing recovery -so wont make the meet. But Thanks very much for the offer you made. Good news is that if all goes well by 2014 I should be able to start riding again - road stuff and nothing too heavy on the old bones so no dirt riding -or huge distant stuff but its a start - so that for me is a huge relief - so maybe pencil me in for the 2014 meet eh !. bier Jake.

mrsibanda 21 Feb 2013 13:23

Hope to make it this year. It completely slipped my mind last year! I think I'll just pop over for the Saturday ride again.

Thanks for the invite Chizz,,

I will hopefully make this, I'm coming up from Wiltshire on Thursday, staying at Loch Ken Campsite in Dumfries and Galloway.

I plan to leave there early Friday and make it to Cannich Friday evening, most probably later on as I will go via Loch Lomond, Inveraray, east to Pitlochry up through the Cairngorms to Inverness then west to Cannich... hopefully in the 9 hours Google quotes...

I just wondered if anyone else was going up from the South West?

Cheers

Hi ADV I will be going from the northwest however, my own plan is that I will making the trip with my bike on a trailer due to having my other half with me. We are going for a week and just cant take enough gear on my bike to make camping for a week comfortable for two any more. I may have Touring Ted in tow with me he also wants to bring his bike on the trailer. His arse can no longer cope with 10 hours in the saddle and that is how long it took me to ride there last time.

I will leaving Wirral on the Wednesday morning and arriving around 6pm ish in the evening. If routes or dates coincide, be glad to meet up along the way?

Hi GM,

Yes you would be very much in my path coming up from wilts, I am yet to decided whether to take an extra week off work and head up a week early to Island hop the outer Hebrides then down to Cannich for the weekend.

Once I have decided (next week or two) and set plans I will let you know - so we can arrange to meet up enroute!

Cheers

Seriously? If you really need more stuff than you can carry on a bike why not get a trailer? I hear they are very popular with the Harley crowd...doh

Hi ADV, our plan is to use Cannich as a base and go to Skye on Friday maybe John O'groats Monday. Enjoy the ride out on Saturday with another trip on the Tuesday and head back on Wednesday. All this is weather pending of course, I dont do snow!

Reggie, old age and calcified bones require comfort:rofl:. If I was on my own I would be using the small tent and thermarest carried on the bike. Dotage comes to us all:helpsmilie: See you for a pint when you land:thumbup1:

Hi Chizz Angus Rory and others,

I'm coming to Scotland again this year, but in late May and with my GF so it's by car and NO camping. She demands good weather (hates the cold), so I hope you can organise that for us.:thumbup1:

I'd love to see you guys again, but we won't get there for the camp though maybe we could catch up with whoever is around (Chizz?) when we stay in Inverness on 29 30 Maybier. I've promised to take her out for the trip up Glen Affric to show her how fantastic it is.

From there we are going up to Talmine on the Kyle of Tongue for a couple of days then tour down the west coast to Tobermory.

Hope the camp goes well (doesn't rain too much)

Seeya Ed

Cheers Angus, sorry for the late message, I work offshore on a raft in the Black sea! Serious - well it's not a raft really, it's a seismic survey vessel.
Anyway, swithering whether to ride up in my Norton Commando ar my BM 1200 Gsa, what is the most popular bike used in this forum.
Cheers.

Saturday ride out

Hi guys does any one know what the ride out will be on Saturday or just as importantly for me and Ted what it won't be? We are there for a few days and don't want to do the same ride out as planned for the Saturday on say the Thursday or Friday.

Thanks in advance, been really looking forward to this for months!:thumbup1:

*Touring Ted* 9 May 2013 21:59

Me and GreenManaleshi have built a huge motorcycle trailer over the last few weeks, and that's what we're dragging the bikes up on.

Towed ceremoniously by a Gold Citroen Berlingo that wouldn't look out of place in Colonel Gadaffis front line... I'm sure Greenmanalishi has got a golden 44 Magnum in the glove box too.

What started out as a drunken 'Back of a fag packet' idea has turned into a £700 bohemoth that has dominated my garage for too long.

We're using it out of pure stubbornness as it was going to be necessary as our girlfriends WERE coming along (who wouldn't fit on the bikes) but then they dropped out like whiney old women leaving us half way through a project build.

It's going to be interesting lol.

greenmanalishi 10 May 2013 14:32

sod the bikes

Having just seen the long range weather forecast I am tempted to say sod the bikes lets just bring the canoe and wetsuits! Roll on next Wednesday morning for we set off at 6am. Only 5 more sleeps to go!!!

Even if it's just a piss up in a campsite.. It will be a good laugh.

It's a 500 mile trip for us so the car/bike/trailer combo might be quite good.

We're planning to visit John O gorats, Skyke etc and keep Cannich as a base..

greenmanalishi 12 May 2013 19:38

Slight change of plan

Hi Guys, due to circumstances beyond our control we will be arriving on Thursday and we will both be on bikes. We are stying in Edinburgh on Wednesday night and rocking up to Cannich around 2pm the following day. Our plans to stay until Monday morning have been shot to pieces as well we will be leaving Cannich on Sunday morning and going back to Edinburgh.

See you all when we land.:D

GM

*Touring Ted* 12 May 2013 19:53

The circumstances are that we're just too f**king hardcore to turn up at a adventure bike meeting in a Gold Berlingo towing a trailer with our bikes on..

That's what E&C would of done before they started filming....

And secondly, we're all out of spray on mud !!

DougieB 12 May 2013 23:35

ahhh, hello there....!

I'm nearly free from my incarceration, and might just make it up for the friday night. Am I wrong that there were curry pasties on the first time of a meeting in Cannich (2009) ?

Are you boys coming into Edinburgh on Wednesday going for a beer ?

hasta mas tarde, caballeros!

greenmanalishi 13 May 2013 08:25

Wednesday Eburgh

Hi Dougie, not sure what is happening on Wednesday evening. I am frantically trying to contact my brother who lives in Joppa. I cant get hold of him we may be camping on the public ground by the Rockville pub just down the road from the Ormaleigh!
Watch this space, without putting out your address what part are you from and which is the nearest pub to you?

GM

angus.h 13 May 2013 13:19

WTF?

Bags packed, suited up and engine running, weather forecast is torrential rain:( Will see everyone there if I dont die of pneumonia or hyperthermia on the way up. Ted has started building an Ark and I am trying to find a good side to this venture apart from the sparkling company:D

At least Chiz and Bruce will have organised ring side seats for the Cannich Bull Run for us:rofl:?

See everyone over the next few daysbier

Oh the woes of bike ownership. Mike was putting in a new ignition on Tuesday night I was away for the day. Our pal got a frantic phone call "Sheena can you take me to the hospital" The grinder slipped and caught his finger, he says it didnt hurt.
Well he has steri strip things on and a fairly sizeable bandage, and if he wears the biggest pair of gloves we have then he can manage the bike while keeping his injured digit straight.
Mike will be there Friday night, with 2 women in tow, they will be in one of the wigwam thingys. Then a bit later on if it stays dry hubby of one of the women might arrive if he gets finished work early.
As usual I will be there Saturday after work going to go in early to get finished early - the things we do for a bike meet -
With any luck I will arrive just after the kettle has boiled after your ride out.

Thanks very much for an excellent weekend!

I came up with a temporary repair for the swing arm spindle by removing the grease nipple and replacing it with a hex head bolt from elsewhere with a washer and a nut that stopped it escaping onto the tarmac :-) Thanks for everyone that helped!

Just trying to plan my calendar... If I don't book the days off soon, I might not get them at all.

I wonder if work will lend me a bike for a few days :)
