Autumn Camping in Yorkshire

We are having a Camping get togeather in Dent in the Yorkshire Dales.

It will be over the weekend of the 6th 7th 8th November {bonfire weekend }

Steve D is going to put his Marque up so if the weather is not to good ,we can all get togeather in there.

The site is a 2 minute walk to the Pub .

The cost is £4 each per night.

they have shower's and WC's.

They also do a fantastic Full English Breakfast in the Farm Kitchen for £4

If anyone would like to try a few Green lane's we can do a run out on the Saturday.

all are :welcome:

Fritz 21 Aug 2009 12:21

Sounding good - assume the hurricane force winds are booked too :stormy:

Laura Bennitt 21 Aug 2009 15:38

I land back on the 7th... Jetlagged run down for the 8th?!

Sounds good though, have fun!

Jake 21 Aug 2009 16:42

Is this a bad dream or am i hallucinating - Dent ! ye gads, dont think i have recovered from the last Dent do - still if I have to face the nightmare maybe this is the time to face it - I must be a sadist to go again but should be there.

Debz 21 Aug 2009 17:41

Hiya

Prior arrangement for the Friday but will be down on the Saturday. We can bring dry clothes and new tents for anyone caught out by the bad weather that is sure to accompany the weekend!! :innocent:

Looking forward to it.

Iain + Debz

greenmanalishi 24 Aug 2009 16:13

Hi Folks I have a prior arrangement for the Saturday evening but I would be up for arrivng on the Friday afternoon and going back on the Saturday afternoon.

As I recall there are two camp sites in dent, a bigun and a littleun. I assume you mean the little site on a hill? (that is where I buried my back wheel up to axle trying to get up the hill before the last wild camp, mercifully I was rescued by Ted Magnum and Steve but I had a red face)

*Touring Ted* 24 Aug 2009 19:35

Stayed in that site last time with Steve !!

Great site, great town, great pub, great people ! Need I go on !!

If im not working, ill be there...

The one I tried to put together in Wales has kind of fallen through due to so many commitments, weddings and work so I'll be glad to get together before Christmas !

Will be fun digging people out of the soft ground around that wall again LOL !

:thumbup1:

Brian E 24 Aug 2009 21:06

I've got a prior appointment on the Saturday but might get chance to call down sometime over the few days.

bigj 25 Aug 2009 00:21

Yep - camping
Yep - pub
Yep - full english (all days)
Yep - Greenlaning.

Do we have to book the campsite?

Debz (and Iain) - We met at the HUMM. I tried to get in touch with you through this forum, but I couldn't think of things to say for 8 posts! It will be good to meet up with you again- (probably in damper weather!)

Ps. Our certificates arrived last week - framed and hung over the fireplace now!

chris 26 Aug 2009 18:24

I have no prior engagements (no mates?), so will be there.
cheers
Chris in sunny South Africa.

PS. Don't let any of those 4x4 types tell you a car is better than a bike for adventure travel. Having just driven a Landcruiser for 9000km I can unequivocally confirm how much more fun a bike is.

Anyone wanting to just ride on the B road's and wanting to meet at the lunce stop,I will sort out a map for that.

I'd really like to come along (assuming I'm not on call).

I won't be green-laning though so also happy to go on or help organise a tarmac-based ride out.

Is this a turn up and pay event or will we need to prebook?

last time I was there (summer), you just turn up and pay before you leave. It's pretty laid back and trusting.

There should be loads of room in November :)

Maxander 2 Sep 2009 11:39

If there is a road ride-out organised, then I would look to stop over one of those nights and join in.

It'll be pretty cold at that time of year :)

Dazzer - this is causing a real dilema.

Do I do the Dent weekend (SteveD) in October ?

The Dent Weekend in November ??

or the Tibbie Shiles meet in November ??

I've got one more weekend pass fo rthis year, I need to choose it wisely!

Just to add, there are few more BOATs in the Lakes now too, just waiting for the deffinative map to be updated.....:innocent:

Hi Paul

your more than welcome. Any make of Bike ,we don't do Clique ,just riding and having fun.

hope to see you then.

I will be on my XR400R for this one :mchappy:

Update....Breakfast will be available each morning at 8.30 from the farm house.

We have 2 off road routes planned.

One I will lead which will be a mix of Back roads .{ tarmac } with a relatively easy off road ride.

Basil will be leading a ride for those that want to ride the harder off road route..Please note not suitable for Novice off roaders.

Craig will lead a B road ride, sticking to tarmac and taking in some cracking route's around the Dales.

the off road rides will leave on saturday at 9.15 ish and. the road ride 10am

All 3 group's will be heading for Masham for lunch.

on my route and craigs road ride there will be a chance for fuel about 15 miles from the campsite.

Basil's route will be about 30 miles before you reach a filling station.

Please bear this in mind.

The ride out's will have a tail end rider so don't worry no one will get lost or left behind.

Steve D is putting up a Marque for us to use once the pub is closed .....!!!!!!.......

we will have a few BBQ's going if you would like to bring anything to chuck on it.

{sad to have to say this...but anyone attending, or riding around with us does so at their own risk.}

stay safe and have fun

Ta for the map Dazzer,
I have stayed at that site before, back in 1965 ! bet it han't changed much, but they might serve me in the Sun inn this visit :smile3:

Jake 13 Oct 2009 09:47

Britch don't bet on being served and don't whatever you do - ask for a cup of tea ! last time we had a mini HU meet up there at the Sun inn it was not very hospitable at all, but as both the pubs are owned (so I believe) by the same bloke maybe the other one is as bad.
By the way Dazzer I am hoping to get along as I said in a previous post but may have to pull out due to other family stuff going on at the moment. It might be good to warn people that the Conder farm campsite has very few level pitches so if you arrive late you will be on a slope and the bottem edge of the field that is level near the entrance is prone to water logging if it rains heavy. I am not trying to put a damper on it just if your pre warned then you can be better prepared for the site. Hopefully see you there but its a pretty big maybe at the moment.
If I dont get there have a great time - the guy at Conder farm is a gem mind - so that makes up for the publican some way.

Any reason to stay here and not the other site in dent which is mostly flat?

I've camped there with the guzzi club so know they're ok with bikers.

Think that weekend is the beginning of a week off work so hoping the weather will be kind - but I must remember to buy a new tent as mine broke on a recent trip in europe!

We were in there Friday & Saturday night and they were fine - mind you the place was full of the Cossack Owners Club, and the strange hats! (they had even stanger bikes :()

Anyway, don't worry about the pub, it's the guy from the farm who works there so all's well. The price of beer is a bit steep though, I'm a tight northerner though :stormy: and found £2.70 a bit on the high side...

Just don't ask to put any coal on the fire, the woman (and I'm not about to call her a maid!) bar person all but called us a bunch of whimps when we asked about another lump or two of coal - just to stop it going out!!

On Saturday Night it did get quite frosty, there's hardly any light polution and the stars are awesum.

So last up date .

I was at the camp site on Saturday .

Breakfast will be from 8.30 till 10am

if you intend to go on one of the two trail rides please try to get your breakfast early

The riders going on the B Road ride have plenty of time to get breakfast after the trail ride out's leave the site

Basil's Harder trail ride will be meeting up just out side the camp site and leaving at 9am.Please note this ride out will be for riders with good off road experience only.

Dazzer's Trail ride which does not include the harder Climbs Basil's ride is taking in. will take in a mix of B road's and trails at a steady pace.

This ride will meet up just inside the camp site and leave at 9.15am

Carig's B road ride out will be leaving the camp site at 10am and will take in some of the best B road's in this part of the Dale's

All 3 groups will meet up for Lunch in Masham.

Anyone wanting to change groups can do so here.

all the ride out's have a back rider so no one will get lost or left behind.

PS.... Basil say's the first round is on him http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/friday.gif http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/eekers.gif

Not exactly a welcome response. I don't need or usually like to stay in B&Bs but more to the point the idea of camping together is to get to know others.
I was merely asking why stay in a site prone to flooding if another is available.

It's ease to get breakfast made here, and it's very laid back .so no problem with having a few beer's late at night...unlike the other site :thumbup1:

I'll be heading north on Sunday, take in in a couple of trails through Kirby Stephen, Brough and Penrith areas if you fancy it ??

Maybe even head west after Penrith and take a trip down the Old Coach road ??

Yahoo 27 Oct 2009 16:41

Sounds good, let us know what time ur thinkin of going.

Old coach road's a bit of a mess at the mo, bloody 4 wheelers have made a bog of a section half way through. Also one of the ''puddles'' submerged the missus drz's exhaust!

I'll be on a 650 trannie so be gentle...:rolleyes2:

I reported that to the Highways, TRF and Countryside rangers on 26th June, also reported how the original culprit had destroyed a footpath sign to use as a slider. Not sure why these people find it neccassary to continue when it's clearly doing alot of damage.......

Even took a picture :

I'll be heading north on the Sunday, about 10ish going over the coal road, then picking up the byway that runs alongside the B6259 - not sure after that, loads to choose from though.

That's now about a metre deep and churned up peat the whole width-and-a-bit of the path. Not pretty.

As for the route, as long as my trannie will handle it, I'm game!

See you then.

Hey,

I think we will join your little party, as we got back into the country yesterday, after our Africa jaunt.

We can only make the Fri, as we already have plans made for us on the Sat, but should be good.

One question though; does the campsite have access suitable for a Blackbird? Or is it strictly an off roader entrance?

Birdy

PS, Jake, hope to see you there. I read your email this morning (if you remember sending it - it was some time ago) Thanks for the good wishes - they saw us there and back, safe and sound!

The site has a gravel track but as you would expect, its a grass campsite.. If you're careful and slow im sure you could get a street bike in. I hope so anyway, because my friend has an SV.

You'd have to take it easy, and maybe choose a pitch near the entrance. I was there a couple of weeks back, these might give you a better idea:

Snap (almost), fitting at 2:00, will probably arrive a little early, so may bump into you. hopefully make it to the site just before dark :scooter:.

Dazzerrtw 3 Nov 2009 15:56

Steve D just rang me and asked me to inform everyone that the cobbles in the centre of the Village are very slippy ...so Take it easy on them,we don't want anyone to Bin it before they get to the camp site http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/eekers.gif

Due to Steve's slight change of plan's .we will now be meeting at McDonald's in Keighley at 10.45 and leaving at 11am on friday. Then onto Hawes for Dinner and that should have us at the camp site by 2,30ish.

pheonix 3 Nov 2009 19:58

Not been too well recently (gallstones) and haven't had the chance to buy a new tent so for both reasons I won't be able to make it.
Hope you all have a great (& fairly dry) weekend :)

Debz 5 Nov 2009 18:28

Hi Dazzer

Sorry if you've already posted this (had a quick squiz through and couldn't see it) - do you have any idea what time you'll be in Masham for lunch on Saturday? Don't think we'll make it down for the start of the ride out so would like to meet up and join for the afternoon ride. We'll be on the outfit again so should be (hopefully) no probs on your ride out - let us know if you think there'll be anything we can't handle. Cheers.

See you Saturday.

I'm working in t morning, so should set off about 2 and be in Dent for 3 to 3:30 ish so should be able to help with the marque

hope it dries out a bit tonight!

debseed 5 Nov 2009 23:25

Hi - Just confirming that I will be there at some point this weekend!

I have a caravan near Lancaster, so depending on how late and/or frozzen I am riding up the M6 on my Serow, I will either stop there on Friday night and meet up with you Saturday morning, or be a good little trooper and make it all the way to Dent.

Either way - I'm looking forward to it!

Back home, and bike washed and tent drying in garage , what a fantastic weekend :-)

Big up :thumbup1: for Dazza for organising this, and putting so much effort in to ensure everyone was looked after and got the choice of ride outs they wanted on Saturday.
Also for Baz and Craig for leading rides and Steve for sorting the big tent (can't spell marque!) and chairs and heating :thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1:

and of course thanks to everyone for the super company

Good to meet some old faces and especially good to meet some new ones, and looking forward to seeing you all again before too long
