What are you looking for in this tour-ette? Landscape/History/Culture etc. I've a bias towards the Teutonic mindset so Germany/Switz springs to mind, but you've perhaps other preferences?:mchappy:

7-10 days will get you a decent tour round the Alps or even as far as Slovenia. As has been said before though, it all depends on what type of place you're looking to visit. People will post here telling you of their favourite week long tour areas. Me :) I'd head over the Alps and into Slovenia. You get the fun in the Alps and, hopefully, a nice warm beach in Portoroz when you get to Slovenia.
A shorter run would be down to the Vercors in France which is a nice looking place to take your bike. Basically though, get off the ferry at Zeebrugge and head into the Alps and you won't be disappointed.
Alternatively, you could head for the Horizons unlimited meet in Germany in 4 weeks time. see

When are you planning on going? If it's in the next month or even into June the alps might be a bit hard core. There's still a meter of snow outside our flat and most of the interesting passes will be blocked for a while yet. Have a look at www.alpineroasds.com

. Thinking about it, this is bang-on. Perhaps a run down East France and the Rhone Valley with detours around the Gorges (Tarn/Verdun/Ardeche) and Provence/Corbieres? Basically low-level but scenic.Hope the current LP area clears by then!

I see...

Definitions of wee (+scottish) on the Web:
bitty: (used informally) very small; "a wee tot"
a short time; "bide a wee"
very early; "the wee hours of the morning"
make: eliminate urine; "Again, the cat had made on the expensive rug"

before google came up only with: "Western equine encephalomyelitis"... :confused1:

Google is indeed your best friend, or maybe we on HU are :) Bide a wee means to stay a little while. OK "bide" means to reside or stay :) EG "where do you bide" = "where do you live"
or "bide there" = "stay there" :)
Anyway, I best not hijack this thread anymore with Language lessons. ;)

I like the idea of heading down Germany to Switzerland, enjoying bit of all 3 - "Landscape/History/Culture", hopefully avoiding the busiest roads. Riding in the morning & enjoying the afternoon in some historic/medieval town, nice meal at night, cheap hotel or campsite, then push off early for the next leg. Is 300 miles a day too much?

Roundals on your bike?

yeh, poss need new username - in glasgow a wee 'bomber' is someone who can run fast, normally from the polis or a pursuing gang!!!
i think biker_harris may be more friendly!!

Hi Bomber, forget the southern ports pop down to Newcastle and get the DFDS boat to Bergen. July is the right time of year to visit the Fjords. Stunning scenery, no language problems and no crap Euro exchange rate. If you're camping or stopping in cabins then it won't be too expensive either.

I like the name Bomber Harris. If people ask if you've been to Germany before just say "yes loads of times, but I didn't land!"
