Ortlieb Speedbag saddle-bags (new for 2009)
 

Ortlieb has released new motorcycle throw-over saddle-bags named Speedbag for 2009.

Price €200 is also higher than their previous saddle-bag, although the bag itself is smaller.

Nice, but 12 liters smaller than the regular version.
This is 35, and the regular saddle bag is 47 liters.
I guess it is OK for shorter trips, but I love my 47 liter perfectly waterproof Ortlieb saddle bags!

They look awesome, but smaller than the claimed volume. May need to see if I can fit my gear in this volume, because my homemade panniers are 50l and I should be able to bring the volume of the gear I want along in future down.

I just spotted these and got all excited until I realised they were 35L in total. What use is that on the road?

Roll-top (no zips) is the way to go. We need the same shape, ie: 'no pillion' long and shallow - so much easier to get to everything - but 25 or even 30L each side. Include the nifty Q/D clip-on feature of the Ort QL2s but up to 18mm. The pushbike clip-on pans cater for variable rack Ø, after all.
Add a self-draining PET water or oil bottle pocket holder or two on the outside and that would be a great, all-purpose AM pannier, IMO.

Agree with you comment otherwise though, but when you build a rack for them (which it requires anyway) there are numerous options for adding MSR water bags or even little army pouches alongside it (haven't test my theory yet as I haven't had time to cad anything up yet :blushing:). I'll be working out something when I get my bikes back. I'll post the result on here.

They will also work well on my DR650.

Big BUT they will not fit over now as the racks have made the whole thing too wide, even having adjusted the throw over straps to the max.Any suggestions? Has anybody come across this problem before? Hope I'm not missing the obvious.?c?

You can add some more velcro between 2 sides so straps are longer? I think you need custom rack for good fit. There is also version of the bags that have plastic clamps instead of straps so they attach directly to rack as pannier (like bicycle bags).

They look perfect for those of us who pack light or have smaller bikes...

Those thrown over a DRZ400 or an XT600 would be perfect...

Topbox and a roll bag on your pillion seat and these for clothes would be perfect for me I think...

Still, £200 aint cheap

How come I can buy two 20l high quality roll-top dry bags for £20 and these are £200?

Carradice cycle luggage is bomb proof they do some great panniers upto about £100 much tougher than the Ortleibs built to last out of a canvas waxed fabric. dont know if they do motorcycle bags :scooter:

I had a similar problem with a different product (and bike). I had a local shop sew extensions on the straps, adding fastex buckles while they were at it. Any dufflebag maker/sail sewer/gear repair shop can do this sort of thing, and they're good people to get friendly with for the inevitable repairs and improvements to backpacks, tents and other stuff.

These look perfect!!! I have the larger Ortleib saddle bags and they are just awesome, but I want something smaller for my KLX that will sit higher and away from the muffler.

I ageee: keep your luggage smaller to force you to only take the necessities.

Chris would you know by any chance what is the max weight these can take?
