Hi Walter

After having a chat with you at Ripley, I'm going with your recommendation of Heidenau K60's up to Barnaul, then I'll be changing to off-road orientated tyres.

The rear on my XT is 18" and I did consider Deserts at first but at 140 they will be too wide. After looking around I think I'll go with Mitas E-09 Dakars. They have quite a similar tread pattern to the Deserts but come in 130's. Also the Dakar varient has a harder compound than the standard E-09 so I'm hoping they are quite hard wearing. I need to look into this a little more but I am 95% Decided.

We have a provisional start date sometime around the middle of May next year, hopefully that will be late enough for the snow to have melted on the passes in the 'stans, i.e. Anzob pass. Hoping to return to the UK in September.
