Not Impressed with Heidenau

Well, for 9 whole miles this was a new Heidenau K60 Scout. Anyone else had this happen to them? Pressures were correct, solo riding, normal speeds. I'm putting it down to a (hopefully rare) manufacturing fault but it isn't exactly confidence inspiring. Better now than friday when I head off to Morocco, I suppose.

The ONLY thing good about the K60 tyres is great mileage.
Couldn't wait to get them of my Honda AT and fit a set-off Pirelli scorpion rally STR.

I get on well with 'em. No discernable problems except the front is noisey and howls at me all the time.

My preferred choice of rubber, for my kind of riding, is Continental Conti-Escapes.

@ Phantom309: that's very bad mate  The supplier will surely change at no charge .. surely!?
:confused2:

Just be careful with road lines in the wet.
And yes you need EARPLUGS.
After 15.000km on my Honda AT, it was just nice to fit a set of better tyres on the bike.

Yup, wheel is now in the back of the car ready to go to the supplier tomorrow. If they say its just road damage and not under warranty I will be throwing my toys out the pram. 70 mile round trip on a weekday, doubt my petrol, time and inner tube will be covered either, but needs must :(

Diagnosed as a cut from road debris, so seemingly not down to Heidenau. I must have run over a light sabre without noticing. Good job I had an HD inner tube in or it would have been a blowout.

Phantom, can you pls share your K60 tire size?

Phantom309 14 Feb 2018 22:07

It's a 150/70-17

Golden tyre 723’s, looks like I’m going to get 9,000km of a full rally approved tyre, they are so tough but not cheap, decent on road as well. I have a 1190 adventure.

@Phantom

It's strange, since 140 and 150 tend to perform better than 120 and 130 (according to various overland reports). Must've been a freak lightsaber you ran over after all :)

If you haven't already, you might also consider Mitas E07

Hmmm... new tyres are generally made by laying a slap of tread rubber round the outer circumference of the carcass and scarfing the ends so the main torque loads tend to pull the tread together rather than apart. The position and shape of the "cut" looks like separation of the scarfed end to me, something that typically happens when the operative can't be bothered to put the tyre in the mould in the right direction. I'd be tempted to have a word with the manufacturer direct, personally.
