My review after 2 years and 2.5 months on a Honda XR 250S
Hi guys!
I was traveling for 2 years and 2.5 months to 14 Asian countries by a Honda XR 250S. I rode 73,000 km. (45,361 miles). I wrote a review about some things I used, which I hope can be useful. It's at: Mad Nomad - 14 Asian countries in 2 years and 2.5 months by a motorcycle! See you on the road again! |
Congratulations on an amazing journey!:thumbup1:

A fantastic journey! I really liked the spirit in which you did it - not throwing money around, travelling slow, and your longterm commitment to raising the money and preparing. Really wonderful.:thumbup1:
It makes a refreshing change from riders who tell us how many countries they passed through in only a very short time...you really experienced the countries you visited. Thanks for your detailed information on the trip, bike, yourself etc. I see you're from Thessaloniki - I spent a few months there at the University....handy for Turkey and further on:scooter: Thanks for a great report:mchappy: |
Great stuff, pitty that India is so affected by tourism that everyone feels they need to rip you off. Thailand and Morroco are the same. :mchappy:
Geniune hospitality is something that makes such a huge difference on any trip. I guess the less traveled countries have the benefit of having people that are interested in you as a person and not just as a way of making them selves rich. :scooter:Also like your choice of bike I think a 250 is probably the mosty versitile bike size.My TTR has been all over the place. It goes places that a bigger heavier bike will not go. |
Yeah, you are right about the people and I expect that in touristic places. However, it's usually OK in remote places where tourists don't go. I visited many of them, but Indians had the same attitude there. Actually, every time they were kicking me out from where I was camping, I was in remote areas where they hadn't seen a foreigner before, I guess.
TTR was the other bike I was considering to use on this trip. I am still considering it for my next trip. Is it the 250 cc or 650? Have you traveled by it? How many kms have you done on a single trip? Did it have any mechanical faults? |

Furious Hi just read your comment seems my reply is a little delayed :) I still have my trusty TTR, its been a few places I bought it from a couple that had ridden as far as singapore b4 shipping the bike back to the UK. My longest trip was down the UK across to Spain and through Spain to Morocco and then lived in Spain for three months using the bike every day and then rode home again. No issues with anything major. I also raced and completed the Weston Beach race ( like Le Enduro Le Touqet ) on the bike and then rode it to work a week later :) I put on a 140 sand tyre for that and the electric start was the only factror that helped me to the finish as My TTR was stuck in all the deep MX ruts too many times. I have in the meantime had a new Tenere but I found the bike to be less fun so now I also have a XR 250 L. The XR does not have the power of the TTR or the character but it is still a good bike. The TTR makes a lovely rumble where the XR is quite like a sowing machine.:scooter: |
