Lidl & Aldi motorbike gear
Lidl & Aldi are doing motorbike gear again
As per every year always worth a look see, I have 3 of there jackets, got 2 from last year, my first lasted 5 years, a mate of mine has a pair of the boots as well. don't think i would like to try out the helmets though. LIDL Aldi url ALDI - Thursday Special Buys 3rd March 2011 |
I will warn against some of the "motorcycle-boots" from Lidl, as they are with shoe laces.
This is a no-go on a bike. Niklas |
I have their gloves, they ROCK! Bought them about three years ago, rode them for more than 20,000km and they're still good as new.
|
the jacket looks to be relatively well vented, may be cheaper than the Klim route...
|
got Lidl boots and an Aldi jacket can't fault them :)

Just had a quick look on line & the Helmets again might be worth as a back up, would have to see them in the flesh as it was
|
I just bought a one-piece rainsuit in Lidl. It's really well made, better than my more expensive old one . We shall see how will it work in the :rain:.. or I rather hope I will never find out :thumbup1:

I bought a pair of the Windstopper trousers (sic: under trousers) from Aldi yesterday. I had the Windstopper top last year and it's probably one of the best bits of kit I've ever bought for £9.99. I am off on a 1000 mile trip including some camping in Devon, Sussex and the Midlands on Sunday and now that I have the pants, I can use my spring/summer/autumn suit (HG Tourag - old style) rather than my winter stuff :thumbup1:

had the rainsuit and helmet a year or so now,,no problems here..........

I wear boots with laces but I have fitted adaptors, basically zips that lace into the boot, it means no loose ends and quick off and on. |
Laces??
Use Lowa boots and have done for donkeys.
Luckily I have enough savvy to make sure that I dont leave huge loops hanging down that can get caught on things! Great for walking in when you get to where you're going. Simples! |

Great fun when you pull up at a junction and just topple off! hehe:smiliex: Andy |
Its easy. Wind the surplus length of lace around th top of the boot, then you have enough for a secure bow, without any "dangerous" loops.

Like about a million other people I've spent years riding wearing laced (military) boots. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but I feel the need to object when people voice opinions like this - unsubstanciated, and likely to misleed newer bikers who don't have their own experience to base decisions on.

I personally have had laces loop hook on the gear lever and cause some interesting moments at traffic lights doh |
FACT - This stuff represents outstanding value for money. Yes it isn't the nicest looking stuff out there but it gets on with the job and does what it says on the tin. I know a London dispatch rider who swears by the gloves and boots. I have had a look at the boots in Aldi and they seem fine to me...
GO RIGHT AHEAD AND GRAB YOURSELF A BARGAIN. Not for snobs though... :thumbup1: |
Well done it, went to Lidl got one of there helmets as a back up, now my own regular helmet is a 55-56 size this new one is a 57-58? the only difference i can see is mine is Italian & Lidl helmet is German & TUV approved.
Fitted ok so thought I would give it a go. As for boots with Laces I willl say this for 22 years i was in Army wear laces in boots & rode my bike or even Mil Bikes, we are taught to tie our boots up what i known as blacksmiths. get lace tie a knot one end near the tip. go through the bottom eye from inside out. go across in to opposite eye & work up to top of boot. leave last eye then wrap the last of the lace round ankle then. put the last of the lace though the eye bring it round it self push it through the rest of the lace. it will stay there all day long , will get to get photos, the idea is if you did break your foot or ankle when in a suitable area you can just cut the bottom loop & top pull the whole lace through. |

there are also so many different ways of doing up bootlaces, please see a earlier post. |

and isn't the hubb a good place for a newbie to find out things and make their own decision? |

I bought the aldi balaclava and two windproof tops, very good for the money, and as effective as wearing my berghaus fleece underneath my bike jacket but now without the Michelin woman effect! Did 300miles last weekend in a day and not even a hint of chill getting through despite my thermometer telling me it was 3c. I hope there are some other bits and bobs left by payday.
|
to lace or not to lace the debate goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on...............................
Aldi make some good cheap bike gear buy it if you like it if you have laces do them up and if you don't zip up :scooter: cheap kit that does the job is better for newbies, short of cash etc etc than buying an exspensive helmet and having nothing left to spend on gloves, jackets trousers etc. cheap thermals are better than no thermals |
I bought some stuff from Aldi´s and some from Lidl´s. I can say that I´am particularly happy with Aldi´s gear. The socks, same price in both places, look and feel better quality. Also, I´m very satisfied with balaclava and chest-neck warmer, I stopped using my oxford´s one, which is a bit rough to my neck. I also got gloves from A. but they are to be put to the test one day. I also got thermals. Top part from both places feels confortable but I prefer the one from Aldi´s.
I´m not really used to buying the most expensive staff, I´m not very picky about that and even for my trips I haven´t chosen the best (money talks) and I don't think I would have enjoyed more if I had spent more $$$$. I was not convince by any of the boots, jackets, helmets or trousers from any of those two places but it´s only about look, storage, comfort, etc. Nothing to do with quality or having laces or not. It´s only me, I´m quite sure that works for other riders. |
I use Lidl's lace-up panties when partying but then I bike home; is this completely safe?
If you have experience here then please help. It's a real worry after reading this thread. |

As you lean forward in the boot, the leather folds inwards (rather than outwards on every other bike boot I've owned) and cuts into top of your ankle bone. Took them back and got refund. A pair of 2nd hand Alpinestars from Fleabay is a better way to go for me. The windproof fleece I bought on the same day, on the other hand, is very comfy. Might wear it with the lace up panties I got from Cami. cheers C |
Lidl Overboot
Purchased the overboot from Lidl for about £6.00 as they seemed as good as more expensive versions around the £17.00 mark, tried them out the other day and i have no complaints whatsoever :thumbup1:
