LEATT C-frame knee braces and why so few adventure riders use knee braces

Written this article for two reasons, the one on why so few adventure riders are using proper knee braces and a review of the LEATT knee braces.

WHY ARE SO FEW ADVENTURE RIDERS USING KNEE-BRACES?

Proper knee braces should be part of every serious adventure or dual-sport riders kit
And also a review on the Leatt C-frame knee braces we have been using the last 2years and 30000km
It is a good question, and we only really came to think about it when Elsebie ran out of luck fifteen years after starting to ride off-road on dual-sport bikes. But we’ll get on to that a little bit later.

Most riders buy the obligatory protection for use with a dual sport adventure bike. Helmet, jacket, pants, gloves, super strong enduro boots and they are off. Why riders would think buying super protective enduro boots but not proper knee-braces is a mystery. At least these days more riders use neck braces as part of their kit. I think because suits and pants normally come standard with knee pads, riders accept that they are adequate enough for protecting knees and trust the clothing brand to know best.......... https://www.pikipikioverland.com/why...g-knee-braces/

because they are dangerous and don't protect you in a way you'd think they do. Do some research, talk to doctors and you'll see some horror stories about accident involving wearing knee braces.

I will never use them as well BTW as neck protectors.

I have the knee and shin protectors that fit into the top of the mx boots and give front protection above the knee but they are too extreme for adventure riding.

I think general RTW type riding as in dirt tracks etc then gereral built in knee protection is more than adequate.

If your are getting more extreme then definatly mx boots and the knee/shin pads are good. but i almost cosider this to be enduro/ mx type riding which is not really what you do on a dual sport/adventure bike, generally speeds are slower so falls suffer less impact.

Maybe i'm wrong but i always thought knee braces helped with weak knees after an injury.

Sounds strange. I’ve made some research but haven’t found anything special against the usage of knee brace. Mainly the opposite (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21297006). I’ve asked a sport doctor in my area and in his opinion, it is a good idea the wear them. Do you have any source/article?

I use pod technical knee braces. The L one is curative, the R one preventative. Had I worn them pre exploding the ACL in my L knee (achieved riding a m/c without them), I would still be able to do things like get off a m/c in a less disabled-looking way or run or ski... But they mean I can still ride a long suspension travel bike, which is convenient.
