Anyone use the Hein Geriche Tuareg cloth?
They seems great: boots, jacket,
l just discovered them in the shop today, the best thing, here the shop sell 50% off on the allready cheap price!
Gore-tex hot summer/cold winter etc
Seems very comparable to the BMW rally 2

I;ve used the HG Tuareg GTX Rallye jacket for the past 2.5 years. It's a 3 season & not a winter jacket IMO. The outer is not waterproof but the zip in Goretex liner is. This is not ideal but the multitude of vents make up for it in the summer.

The matching trousers are uncomfortable on me, cut too low on the waist. Instead, I bought a pair of HG Master or Voyager trousers, Goretex & fully waterproof - very happy with them.

Couple of points with HG stuff:

1.Sizing can be very strange. My jacket is XL but I'm only 5'10" / 1.78m tall & slim?

2. Costs vary from country to country. Some HG is actually cheaper in the UK than in Germany? My jacket was £200 in the UK but £269 in Germany in June 2002.

Matt,

Dig a little deeper in this forum, a lot of people have already posted their experiences of HG gear.

I've got Dri-Rider jacket and trousers. The jacket is not bad, nice and warm and was waterproof. Like all Gore-Tex like stuff, this only lasts for a limited time. Unbearably hot in a normal French summer, though.

The trousers leaked from day one and were exchanged for another leaking pair. I have to wear plastic over them...

For my Asia trip I think I'm going to use my 20-year old leathers. Leather lasts a lot longer.

Do they still have a shop in Toulouse? The one here in Nice apparently is not a HG franchise any more. I thought they closed all franchises in France, or are other shops now selling their gear?

I've had a couple of the Tuareg Gortex Rallye suits. I find them very comfortable and wear them all year round. They're especially good in hot weather due to the venting in the arms and back. The outer material isn't waterproof but due to this is alot more breathable than other suites I've had in hot weather. The Gortex liner is too hot to wear with the suit if it's warm and it's raining so I usually wear a lightweight wateroof over the top if it's very wet. In cold weather with the Gortex liner fitted, the suit is warm enough in most conditions. If it's very cold I wear a thermal shirt as well. If there is a problem it's that the light coloured material can get very grubby looking especially riding on UK winter roads. It's a minor complaint but, the Mrs moans about it looking scruffy. The good thing is that, as it's the liner thats Gortex, you can wash the outer in a washing machine if it gets filthy and retreat the leather pads with polish. I've found HG very good to deal with over the years. They have even changed things that I've lost the receipt for without a problem.

The sizes seemed a bit strange, l tried a XXXL ! it was ok but normally l wear L or XL, though for 190 € it seemed to me a very great buy,
l've never had any high tech jackets before, and the breathing gore-tex liner must be good for those long summer trips,
At the moment l use a simple bering cordura jacket, when tryig the HG tuareg l felt like wanting to throw it away and use something more modern!

l found the HG shop in Toulouse last day, me too l thought they were all gone,
lt is located between boxer bikes and suzuki south east from the city center, but well hidden,
The prices are surprisigly low for what you get and most products were 30-50% off due to old series,
For example l bought some gore tex boots, great, comfortable and warm: 60 euros!?
Maybe its a HG discount store with old but good products,

ln Nice, l think the store was located near Avenue Jean Medecin, kawasaki and the train station,

Cheers,

Matt

Know what you mean about the sizing. The first Tuareg suit I bought had a large jacket and small trousers. Unfortunately, the new one has large everything!

Mr Moderator

You were in this gear the last time I saw you, pretty well worn too.
