Decent Gear for $400

Hi,

I have been told it is possible to not skimp and pay about $400 for gear, but when I look at the various websites, things are quite a bit more expensive. I already have a helmet, so I imagine I will need a jacket, leg protection, gloves and boots. Missing anything? Can someone recommend what gear to buy with a budget of $400? I am planning on going from US-Panama and will bring some insulating wear so it doesnt need to be really warm. Thanks.

I have been riding with a FirstGear Kilamanjaro jacket and matching pants. The gear is totally water proof, warm and comfortable. I could not say a bad word about it. Ran around a little under $400.00 after tax. Good luck.
