clothes for biking ???
 

hello,
which clothes (pants, jackets, etc ... ) would you recommend for 2 year's rtw ?
leather, gore tex, cordura, ...
brands : here in france, we have bmw, dainese, bering, for most famous, ...

any experiences ?

Personally I like the Rukka Airpower and / or the BMW suits that are similar.

Ventilation is VERY important, we spent a lot more time trying to cool off than warm up. But perhaps that's cause we're weird and prefer to ride in warm places than cold places. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

In the heat is where I think the BMW/Rukka suits win over the Aerostich. Remove the Goretex lining and they breathe amazingly well.

My BUDGET riding clothes include a Joe Rocket jacket with liner and vents. My pants are Tour Master overpants. I almost bought an aerostich suit, but the price of the other stuff sold me. I saved money and spent it on a new helmet. woohoo

a lot of money though, + you have to ad the goretex thing
a good alternative (especially for price!)could be hein gericke, do they offer good protection, do they last, ok for cold and warm (adjustable) ?

About Hein Gericke.
I have the Tuareg vest and pants. The have done 38000km in one year under all conditions. And I have to say they are doing a good job.
You should know that the simpatex waterproofing only lasts about 20000km, then you need a rain overal or something.
Other nasty detail is the velcro at the collar. It doesn't hold. I recommend to place some 'pinch-buttons' yourself.
I have not that much experience with them in warmer conditions, but I'm afraid the ventilation ain't that good at all. You can take out the liners, but even then it can still be pretty warm.
In May I am using them to go to Marocco for a month. Guess I will know more about the ventilation after that one.
On the other side, if you use the right underwear they will keep you warm even when the temerature is just below zero.

I used the Tuareg jckt and pants in Morrocco, they although I did sweat buckets but it was well over 100 degs. so you will sweat whatever you wear.

I know have a pair of the Hein Gericke light weight trousers which I rode back from the Czech republic in June and found them very cool, although felt more vulnerable than the Tuareg pants, the jacket was excellent with all the vents opened but has some anoying points as already pointed out (Collar).

One thing I found most excellent was using a lowe alpine breathable T shirt which didn't stink after you'd been sweating.

Just be careful not to compramise your safety with your choice, nearly got knocked off the road in the Atlas mountains by an idiot in a Golf GTI of all things.

they have in particular the VOYAGER jacket and pants Goretex, very nice, not too expensive, good protection, maybe not enough breathable, it seems like ?
maybe too many velcro, as someone said before.
really good compromise, i think
anyone has tried ?

nb : they have some other clothes coming out soon
i looked at the tuareg, it is really desert oriented, not too warm

BMW has a new "Commuter" jacket with lots of vents (2 in front, 2 in the rear, 2 in the back) and a goretex-like waterproof liner. It looks really good but I could not give it a try, they did not have my size. Next month maybe...

finally, i bought bmw clothes, got 35% sales :-)
- Kalahari boots : not too heavy, goretex, good compromise between road and cross
- Touren jacket and Streetguard pants : goretex, schoeller stuff, good protections, breathable
may need something under when it'll get cold (patagonia underwear, polartech fleece) :

hein gericke have cheaper solutions gore tex and good protections
it's a question of priorities ...
i've been told that Dainese is not very strong, they are quite expensive too
i also saw some nice Alpinestars clothes : goretex, windstopper, protections, not too expensive
