Intercoms. As the world record biker, I'd like to elaborate on the intercoms. For our RTW we used Autocom. But for the Trans Americas we used Sonic.

Which do we prefer? SONIC. Why? Sonic make the systems for the police and MOD and don't gear to the leisure market like Autocom do. What this means is that you get a great system, with quality sound and robust connections.

Extremely cheap solution is German made Albrech AE-500. It costs around 100 euros (around 120 US bucks) full set(!) You can add mobilephone, CD/MP3 player, bike-to-bike radio connection. It has built-in FM radio as well. When you start to talk with your co-rider, then the music volume reduces automatically.

I've owned one for about 1 month and i've been completely satisfyed. It's extremely easy to install the sets into helmets, AE-500 unit itself fits into the pocket easyly and works with 2 AA batterys that work a surprisingly very long time (just replaced my first pair of batteries), so it's has a very low power consumption.

I've tested the signal-to-noise-ratio: i can talk with my corider till the speeds to 170km/h.

Hi, I used an Autocom easi V8 for my Cape to Cape in 2002-2003, it was reliable and bike powered but not as good as Autocom say, difficult to hear above 80mph, and wind noise is transmitted. It was expensive at £300 for powerbox, intercom, 2 head sets and extension cables. Stange though, 22 years on bikes without a thought about intercoms and now I wouldn't be without one, but I would probably goe for a different make when this one packs up
