Aluminium boxes - NO WAY-stiupid idea!
I saw photograph of Holenders travelers bikes in Africa. My friends was there and takes pictures of very interested idea. The travellers didn't use any boxes. They made from sheet of steel or aluminium special rear plate for fuel tanks, tires and rest of stuff. Amazing! Stron hard, safe! If You cras usually you lost yours boxes!
If You have any of photograps of it - please send it! I need all information, becouse I want made it! If You interested in, please reply any interested idea. |

I've put my 650GS down on my aluminum Touratech boxes 4 or 5 times now, once at 20mph, with no damage. I don't think they'd take much damage at higher speed. Just think about trying to do any work on your bike with something you can't remove... |
i was interested to read that you have crashed your touratech boxes and wondered if you were using the toratech mounting brackets. i am preparing a dommie at the moment using the t.tech mounting kits and are unsure if they will be tough enough to crash my dommie onto. i have considered using another mount in the middle of the square frames. the though of the brackets failing in the middle of nowhere does not make me happy.

hi oz
Just to let you know i dropped my Ktm Adventure fairly slow but quite hard on tarmac recently when someone cut across me. We were fully loaded and there was no damage to the boxes, barring a few very minor scratches and the touratech brackets held fine. Will |
And My wife and I crashed on a 'Dakar Rally' Elefant with Jesse Bags, enough to break my ribs, and only scratches on the bags. Solid as a rock and actually saved a bigger hit as they acted as a crash bar in the rear to the one up front.

We fell over on tarmac doing about 80 km/h 2 up and fully loaded Touratech boxes, and allthough the left box was twisted out of shape and fell off, the mounting brackets were fine. The alumimum twisted so the brackets slipped off, and on two brackets a couple of the screws were pulled out, but nothing bigger screws didn't fix. In other words, everything else will fall apart before the brackets do. ------------------ Dag http://RocinantesTravels.com |
