'Camouflage' style clothing
Hello,
Like some other modern clothing, my bike jacket and pants have a 'desert camouflage' theme to them. I am going on a ride out of Europe to North Africa later on this year around September for the first time and would like to wear them for the trip. I am aware that some countries don't allow civilians to wear any form of military apparel, of which none of them I am going to. I am after other peoples experience's to see if they think it would be a problem. I am prepared to go buy some other clothing should I have to but it is an expense that I rather do without Any thoughts? Mike |
Perhaps wear your flourescent vest over the top in more 'sensitive' areas
|
If you have the balls to wear it you better act like you're in charge and start giving orders and bitching them out! :cool4:

Nothin but trouble, Ditch them.
3rd World, 2nd World, 1st World, it dont matter. I have spent a nite courtsey of the French Police in Calis, The U.S.A provided me with the full treatment in Chicago ditto in Canada all on the same trip. WAS wearing a green cammo jacket raggity jeans and militry style boots. Since then I have dressed in respectable cloths, clean shaven with a positive attitude and had positive results at Borders and with the various authoritys. APPEARENCE MATTERS Good luck ..............Patrick |
Asia we always tried to look as much like missionaries as possible.

Thanks for your thoughts. It has answered my question. As its my 1st trip out of Europe I certainly do not want to add unnecessary problems.

Army camouflage
If concerned, just go 'Commando'!!!

Camouflage or Commando?!!
I've spent enough time in camouflage not to want to spend any more time in it, however that's a different story.........
But whilst at a police checkpoint in Westert Sahara I did meet a Brit who was wearing camouflage trousers and he certainly was not getting the "rubber glove treatment" from the cops. He had ridden all the way down the East coast of Africa and then up the West in them and lived to tell the tale, so it can't be impossible. Having said that he was also wearing a beaten up visorless helmet, a T Shirt, no gloves and a rather fetching pair of tennis shoes bought from Romford Market! His bike had some knackered canvas throwover panniers with bits of kit poking out at all angles, a couple of ropey looking spare tyres held on with bits of string and a rear sprocket welded from a discarded bike somewhere on his travels. I swear that I couldn't find one item of Touratech kit anywhere! You can travel in anything you like, however I wouldn't travel in camouflage myself due to the extra attention that it may bring. But you will probably get just as much attention dressed in the latest all breathing, ventilated, stormtrooper/space invader/'just-finished-a-stage-of-the-Dakar-Rally-kit from BMW/KTM etc. Oh, and I wouldn't recommend 'commando', the factor 25 suncream really makes you slip around on the seat! :mchappy: |
Was that Dan Walsh you saw out there??
|
 !!
OK, with a choice of Commando, Rambo and Stormtrooper - i will opt for the latter. Mike |
camo
In africa they are always looking for a reason to hassle you..and you wearing camo is a good as any..my advice for whats its worth is DON'T..but as always your call
i used the missionary trick in nigeria .. it worked every time but then im old grey and look like one!!! jeff Gone wandering |
In wich colours is the pattern?
We had in Dez. here in Arg. a brit guy with redish whiteish camo riding pants.Bike clothes fashioned styled.I think that kind of clothes are clearly not military. Now riding original stuff could lead quick to missinterpretations.
Good luck KH |
one of those guys, maybe???

Illegal in Namibia
Civilian Camo clothing is frowned apon in Namibia. Going through a checkpoint in the north of Namibia one of my workers, who was catching a lift with me, was told to take a pair of camo trousers off by the police who then confiscated them.
Maybe they liked the pattern more than their own uniform ;-) |
