Strange things you have hit
 

This article appeared in a local paper a couple of weeks ago, poor bastard! Emu's and roo's blend in to the road side vegetation very well.



A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed after hitting an emu in Victoria's west.

The rider came off his bike after hitting the bird at about 10.30am (AEST) today on the Casterton-Edenhope Road, near Edenhope, nearly 400km west of Melbourne.

Police are investigating the accident, Rural Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said.

The man's death takes the state's road toll to 254 for the year, eight fewer than for the same time last year.



A friend cleaned up a kangaroo last year and is still recovering. Who has other tales of woe to tell???

well I'm sorry to here about that.....

well you are down under and the creatures sharing the world are may a bit bigger than over here in Europe....

well this June a few month ago on a bike trip to Sweden together with my mate we came just in to the outskirts of Esbjerg/Denmark, I did nearly hit a deer in bright day light... I was riding behind a van on a busy road, suddenly this deer came out of the bushy side to cross the road but luckily rearlisied the busy traffic and paniced back in to the side.... there wasn't much room to get around if it didn't turned around... deers course lots of heavy car accidents mainly at night.

A few years before that I went to work on my bike, abut 6am, a foggy dark morning on a lonely country lane in Oxfordshire. suddenly there stand a male deer right on the middle of the lane and fros still as it came in to the beam of my headlight.... well i could just dip the bike to the right other wise I would have run straight in to that dear right up front, luckily the deed didn't turn the same way so no one got harmed, not the deer nor I.:thumbup1:

My advise... we are not alone on this planet, and the roads are used by other creatures as well, so take care and watch out...

Can't match that - the emu was hit in clear daylight conditions?
Come to think of it, you must have seen the pics that went around the internet of a horse through the windscreen of a car - probably a "photocut" fake? (But horses do get hit on the UK roads)

There is plenty of roadkill on the roads of the UK but nothing the size that you guys can find - the odd deer, very occasionally.

1 year ago in thailand,cambodia but with the bicycle the dogs had there revenge, every time you pas a dog in thailand with the bicycle they go for the kill. ok its good for the condition but one of them had the chance to bite in my soft panniers and stop my bicycle . once on my feed i sceard the dog away. so if you ever wanth to ride e bicycle in thailand always have a something to hit ore trouw with you

A friend of mine almost died after hitting a cow. He's OK now though.

I once hit a huge tigersnake in Tasmania. The bloody thing ended up wedged in my bashplate- still alive too!! Took me a while to put my feet down. Luckily it's back must have been broken so it didn't move from there. I ended up jumping on it's head to put it out of it's misery(True story_ I hadn't even had a single G&T).:cool4:

On topic: someone on the blogs here got hit by a vulture in Africa. If I recall, the vulture died.

I once hit a duck in original size out of white clay or plaster. It was broken.

I kind of bumped into a cow in northern India a few weeks ago.

It was standing in the middle of the road, so I slowed right down, then it started moving off in one direction, so I came off of the brakes to go around the back of it, but then (being a cow as opposed to a bull), it changed its mind and went the other way. I clipped the back of it with my radiator (skimming the edge of one of my forks). The result was a toppled, confused (but OK) cow, me only just correcting the weave and blue liquid all over the road!

All in all, an expensive incident both on the time front and on the wallet!

I'm sure that in a few years' time, I'll laugh to tell the story of it. Come to think of it, I already do laugh at it...

Good to hear that others were more fortunate than the guy in the newspaper story.

I almost forgot about this one. When I was young and silly (ok the young bit was a long time ago) I used to ride an XR500 up a stretch of beach between Noosa and Rainbow Beach where the vehicle ferry leaves for Fraser Island. I hit a Seagull at somewhere in the vicinity of 120 - 140kmh. It hit me square in the middle of the chest and by the time I managed to stop the bike I could hardly breath. Apart from being winded I got out of it very lightly.

After a ceremonial burial for the unlucky bird I continued on my way.

You just can't beat a ride in the sand on a beautiful beach that is just as wide and hard as a real road.

PS; G&T's can't be good for you can they Ken???

A long time ago, driving my benelli T50, I ran over a cat. It tried to cross the street between my front and rear wheel. The front wheel timing was good but it was just a bit to slow for my rear wheel so I ran over it. It made a lot of noise and ran away. I stopped but it disappeard in the bushes (I don't know how many of it's nine lifes it had already used)

Another time I was riding my GoldWing on the Autobahn, doing about 160 km/h when I heard a very loud BANG.
I stopped at the next parking to check out what happened. Then I found the remains of a very big dragonfly that had hit my fairing. I was glad it hit the fairing and not me.

It is not uncommon collision in the western USA but I hit a deer in Oregon, made a bit of a mess of the bike, me and the deer. In fact the deer had to be shot by the guy who came to my aid.
3 days later I came out of hospital and went to recover my bike, I had an invite to dinner and guess what; we had venison, a real road kill dish.
I had a broken collar bone broken ribs and concussion. Fixed the bike as best I could and rode it back to Charleston SC to ship it home.

Other hits include rabbits, a lamb, dogs, and cats. The most bizarre was a kid’s football which I ran over with both wheels, and properly could not do that again if I tried.
