Anyone shipping from Darwin to Dillli early 2024?

I'm just putting my feelers out as I'm battling my way through shipping from Darwin to Dilli.

I'm hoping someone might have good info on a affordable options or would be looking at sharing a container?

Sharing Container?
So far I've only gotten a usable quote from ANL for a full container.
From the numbers they gave me, that totals up to USD2900 which is a bit under AUD4500.

Just sharing the container with 2 more bikes would already drop the costs to AUD1500, which is not too crazy.

Ideally I'd like to drop my bike off in Darwin either in early December 2023 or early January 2024. Then have the bike get on its merry way via ANL in a container for pick up in middle of February after. I could probably get someone to store the bike in Darwin while I'm not there.

If there's anyone with a similar schedule, I'm happy to chat. Or if you have info on shippers as I'm struggling to get responses since a lot has changed over the last few years.

Updates and my info so far
Toll - Perkins is now ANL (CMA-CGM) and they only do full containers.

Bollore have been challenging to deal with as they apparently only deal with "businesses". I'm still trying to get information out of them by going through a friend that has a business to shop on my behalf.

None of the airlines that fly to Indonesia can take a motorcycle.

CEVA is someone I'm trying to get hold of now but haven't gotten any info yet.

In general phone numbers are getting really hard to find and people do rarely respond.

Last option?
I have a costly quote to ship from Brisbane to Surabaya, which would work, but it is expensive and I'd prefer to start from eastern Indonesia or Timor.

Hi!

I am looking for prices to ship my motorbike from Sydney to some port in Indonesia, so your proposal from Darwin to Timor could be a very good option for me on those dates.
If we could get a third party the prices would not be too bad.
In my case I would have to get a transport from Sydney to Darwing, as I don't have time to make the journey myself.
I am looking into other shipping options to Indonesia, but I don't have anything very concrete yet.
Keep in touch!

Motorcycle trip to Southeast Asia 2025

I gave up on ANL Darwin-Dilli.
I'm sharing a container Brisbane-Port Klang, Malaysia.
Proposed sailing date 9 January 2024.
Plenty of room for another bike. Would bring the cost down under $2K AUD
I want to see Indonesia so will take a car ferry from Singapore and back.
Shilin Chen is the instigator shipping with Jarrod Lee of EDI.

I had quotes from ceva logistics early this year that worked out to about AU $1000 for my 2.2 cubic metre crated bike from their Darwin depot - Dili, using their LCL service. Uncrated bikes were about $2K AUD They use ANL shipping. Message me and I can forward emails and shipping requirements/ details to you.

I just shipped a bike (Sept 2023) from Brisbane, Australia to Port Klang, Malaysia with view to going onto Indonesia (Feb 2023). My tentative intended route from Peninsula Malaysia to Java Indonesia is via RORO ferry from Klang, Malaysia to Sabah, Malaysia then ride across the land border to Kalimantan, Indonesia at either Kuching, Malaysa ot Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

I’ll catch a RORO ferry to Surabaya from Pontianak or Balikpapan

A few comments:

It took my agent almost a month to clear my bike from Malaysian Customs. This was because a different Malaysian department got involved for inexplicable reasons. I suggest making your agent confirm MITI (https://www.miti.gov.my/) will have no interest in your bike importation nor require a personal interview with you in KL before releasing your bike. Your CDP alone may not be enough.

Indonesian Customs will NOT allow any foreign registered bike to enter Indonesia without the agreement / approval of IMBI (Ikatan Moor Besar Indonesia - basically Indonesia Big Bike Association). This is a private organisation though with close ties to military and police. You must apply to IMBI before trying to import your bike with a Carnet de Passage (CDP). The CDP alone is insufficient.

When you buy your CDP from AAA in Canberra, the ever helpful Louise will provide you the application form and instructions for contacting IMBI if you tell her you are going to Indonesia - that’s how I first learned of this requirement.

.

For people and businesses in SEAsia and outside of Australia you’ll usually have more luck with WhatsApp than with direct messaging to their phone number.

If you put their details and regular phone number in an iphone as a new contact the WA app should tell you if they are already on WA.

That sucks. I plan to do the same in 2028 but please do keep this thread updated.

Hi, I have been doing some research as I intend to leave from Darwin to Dili later this year (August) after doing the Cape in July/August. Ideally, I would like to travel with my bike, and I am trying to work out whether there is any method, such as smaller freight boats etc, that would allow that.

I have done a lot of reading, and this is the most recent thread so I though I would post here first. It sounds like, barring that, Perkins/ANL is my best option, or else Bollore. Interested in how this thread went, and if you had any success transporting the bike over?

Thanks in advance

Following this one, its def one of the routes I have looked into on my short bit of research here, Darwin - Dili. The other option was shipping from NZ to Cape Town and starting and finishing there, with a short hop from India to Bangkok to be able to ride to SEA, it may well come with its own challenges I'm sure...

Dili to Darwin

March-April 2025 I’m going to send a motorcycle from Dili to Darwin. While I drove 25,000 kilometers, I left the motorcycle in Jakarta and decided to rest. If there are people who want to send a motorcycle at this time, write! Let's split the container to make it cheaper :)
