Darwin - Dili January 2025
Hey guys, I will be shipping my dr650 hopefully mid January. If anyone wants to share a container that would be great. If not, if anyone can help me out with some advice I would appreciate it. Thank you

2028 Sydney to Indonesia and beyond
This is probably too far into the future for most folks but anyway ... interested to meet potential co-travellers for Sydney to London in late 2028.
The most important parts to share would be ANL freight Darwin to Dili and trans-China. I am mindful of trip duration as I will be riding during long service leave. For that reason I will transit China from Laos to the Stans. This will cost a lot, but less in a group. My "super power" is doing pretty good trips with minimum wasted time, I've done this in lots of countries, especially in Asia. I will be on a steady itinerary, riding most days. To be clear I am not seeking advice about whether this is the best way to travel, it's what I need to do. I am well connected for rides anywhere between Dili and Sumatra, and I have ridden most of Indonesia multiple times. Interested to meet anybody who might be interested in either/both Dili and China. Maybe more ... if you can relate to my style of travel :) |

hi ben, have you looked any further into this? I'm interested in shipping in April aswell so if your keen to split costs, contact me. |
Following this thread as also looking to set off RTW from Sydney in mid 2026.
Darwin to Timor Leste would be our favored route, so interested to see and hear about people's experience, as it appears to have become more complicated in recent years. I have had a quote to fly the bike (a heavy BMW 1250GSA as there are 2 of us on it) from Perth to Bali as well, which is coming in at ~AUD$5.5k, including all the formalities at both ends. Not cheap, but would at least be simpler and quicker. Thanks, Paul |
Recent quote for freight
I got a quote for Dili to Darwin a month ago. It can only be a whole 20' contains, which is $10,900. The estimated end-to-end process is around 18 days.
The container cost can be split up with multiple riders. But the 3 weeks ... that really sucks. It's about another 2 weeks on top of that heading Darwin to Dili. Heading south, I'm probably fly back to Indonesia and hang out there for 3 weeks, then straight into Darwin to resume the journey. But waiting around for 3 weeks in either Dili or Darwin without my bike is not attractive. |
