Want to buy new XT250 Serow
 

Hi Everyone,

I've been trying to buy a new Yamaha XT250 Serow for several months and have been unable to locate one in the UK. Surely one of you kind people can direct me towards a dealership that can help? I've tried all the usual dealers and posted questions on both Serow sites but still nothing.

Please help me in my plight!

Hi,
Saw a couple in Carricks in Edinburgh about a month ago. They may still have one. I know this is a little old but may be worth a try. Not sure of the number. The are in Queen Charlottes Street in Leith.

that was my first point of reference and none of the advertisers could help. Who'd have thought it would be so hard to buy a new bike eh? I've only been trying for about 6 weeks now!

Cameraman-is that you Reggie from Bolton? (XT225.com) How is the bike search getting on? I expected you to be sorted by now. I've just had a look in Bike Trader, DC motorcycles are selling a couple of new XT225's for around 2,800pds each. I'm reet chuffed with mine, a crackin' little bike. Cheers, Fatal (St.Helens)

yep it sure is me and no, I'm not getting anywhere with a new XT250. It''s starting to get on my nerves a bit but I'm sure some supplier out there will come up with the goods, if I wait long enough and badger enough people!

Hi Paul,

thanks for your efforts. The models are both 225's, where as I'm looking for the new 250cc model, however as things arn't looking good for a 250 then I reckon I'll end up going for one of those found by you. I'll let you know how I get on. NOTE the photo on the website show's a Brazilian built version which I've been told to keep away from. Have you had any experience of these machines yourself?

Hi, sorry yes you are right, I did not read you message properly, I actually didn't know there was a new 250cc serow! I have just bought one (1996) for my girlfriend and i am prob going to get one for myself. Currently have a XT350 but kick start is a pain in the ass. So to answer your question, no I haven't had much experience with the Serow apart from what I have read in my research...which is all good http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Would a XT225 be a contender as a RTW/touring bike, assuming limited luggage or wouldn't you even consider it?

We are going to use them - although not for a RTW but for an Africa trip. We had Transalps on our last trip but too big for my girlfriend when the conditions get tough. Serow has such a good repution for reliability and is light and low seated. I would say I would have prefered something a bit bigger for myself perhaps a 350cc but we only want to carry one set of spares. If you aren't bothered about speed and high performance (which we aren't) but want cheap, reliability then I would say it is a great choice - well I hope so anyway http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thats my reason for asking. Can't seem to find appropriate light small bike for girlfriend to do London-Cape Town so am starting to look at the smaller then 400 range.

F650 will be low enough but too heavy. I might just have to accept that I must take a larger bike to take the bulk of the kit and her take a smaller bike such as the 225 with a small pack on the back.

Yes, sounds like you have been down the exact same paths as me. The F650 was one of our options but as you say it is still heavy even though the seat is low. There are no bikes that are lighter and lower than our old Transalps in the 350 to 500 range, at least not fairly common ones with good reputations, so the Serow for my girlfriend has become the obvious choice. I have bought myself an XT350 because I know some parts will be interchangeable but it is kickstart only and that is just proving to much of a pain in the ass...especially if I imagine the bike stalling out in Africa in a precarious position. So I reckon I will end up with a Serow as well.

Hi Paul,

well I tried both of the contacts and neither of them has any 225's or 250's.

I'm getting fed up now! I want one before the weather stops me from riding my R1200RT.
