have you tried BAT Motorcycles and also look on eBay

The Cameraman 3 Oct 2005 22:06

Hi Paul,

tried BAT & Ebay without luck.

However this morning I rec'd a call from Riders in Yeovil who've got some in stock, so it looks like a trip to the South coast is called for next weekend!

cameraman, what you were told about the brazilian built XT225? (told to stay away from)I've put about a thousand miles on mine since buying it used in August, been greenlaning on it nearly every week, and commuting, I can't fault it. I was a little concerned at first regarding parts availability, but I've researched that side now and I'm satisfied I shouldn't have too much of a problem. Please let me know as I'm very curious. Cheers, Fatal.

Hi Fatal,

the warnings I was given related to the following points;

1, the general build quality and finish well below par (a bit like looking at the Italian versions compared with the Jap originals).

2, many parts were not compatible between the Jap and Brasilian models, so you have a more limited market for spares and after market items.

3, the electrics are lower rated than the Japs.

Anyway I'm happy that my purchase was delayed long enough for a Yeovil based dealer to provide me with a new XT250.

Looking forward to a chance to meet up with you.

Me and my partner have just completed 18000kms on two new XT250. The reason we chose them was so Laura could ride, she no 6 footer. But we did Mexico and USA Japan and crossed Russia east to West and then sent them back to Australia. No there no high speed machine but we had no problems and embarresed many bigger bikes in the mud and slush not forgeting the sand.
We call them our little donkeys, they go and go loaded to the hilt.

I couldn't agree more. I'm really glad to see that the Serow/XT225 is getting out and about more! I rode mine from Alaska to Argentina, about 19 thousand miles (see www.loisontheloose.com) and it was great all the way, except at high altitude.
I would definitely recommend it to shorter riders, especially if you're not planning to go higher than 10,000 feet.
Cheers,
Lois

Have you tried Fastline in Preston?

have you tried this Minehead, Somerset based company? They import new and used Serows from Japan plus lots of interesting low mileage Japanese trial bikes that look like they have been exported due to the Japanese MOT laws on older vehicles.

Good luck
