READ FIRST - Getting there - shipping the bike database on left menu

First place to check for information on shipping your bike is in the Shipping database on the left menu under Planning. There are hundreds and hundreds of shipments recorded in there, and people are adding to it all the time.

In the same section is information on the why's and wherefores of air and sea, crating etc.

If what you want isn't there, then search the HUBB and this forum, then ask away if you're doing something new and different.

And once you have done your shipment, please add it to the database so that others can benefit from your experience. Take a little give a little! :)

Thanks and good luck!

I think that the post from Grant Johnson was probably prompted by my message about shipping recommendations.

I did firstly look in the information provided in the 'planning' section in grey. But I only found 12 other people that had shipped from SA - Europe, and none were relevant to me. Am I missing something?
It certainly seems I am missing something, evidenced by the fact that I seem to be the only one with purple envelopes next to my posts??! Sorry I'm new to this, are completely computer-illiterate, and can't find a complete user guide... FAQ not cutting it.

But seriously I would really appreciate some up to date recommendations for shipping companies - especially concerning security

SA ? South Africa. South America ?

purple envelopes? Meaning ananswered or unresponded to posts? Possibly those who have looked so far have no answer.. either those than know are on the road (or they are not reponding for what ever reason) or no one knows here.

I think Grant is saying - if it is shipping information .. then it should go in the shipping section .. so it is all in the one place and you don't have to wade through so many posts .. Organisation is the key to usefull information. There is so much usefull information here it is hard to keep it all organised!?

--------------
While you say the 12 were not relevant .. they are a starting point with a list of firms .. that do ship .. and they have some comment made on them .. better than a phone book that lists all of the shippers - some of whom are not intrested in one offs, others not intrested in vehicles .. etc . Don't be too critical .... it is a starting point. Not the end of the search but the start, it should give you some idea?

-------------------------------------------------
Arrr I see you have some (helpfull?) responces over on another section.. on the security issue - all you can do is take tings off the outside that could be easily removed and put them inside the vehicle .. and then insure it .. take photos as it leaves - so you have evidence as to what was there and its condition .. cross fingers. Think that is in the FAQ?

If you are looking for general shipping information? Karin wrote some nice articles. Here is a link to the combined resource page on shipping.

I can not find the Shipping Database. I've looked in the grey "Planning" panel, but the only shipping link is to "Getting there - shipping the bike".

Has it moved, or am I just blind?

Any chance of a link please?

***ANSWER***
I am blind!
I was looking for keyword "Database", but eventually found it under "Actual Shipments by Travellers"

Hi All,

I'm planning a trip to Chile and Argentina for November this year. Although I've found a lot of information in the shipment section, most of the entries for South America seem quite outdated so I was wondering if any member of the forum had a recent experience he/she would like to share?

Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Sandro
