Argentina through Brazil, Amazon to Manaus, Venezuala to Colombia??
 

I am in Argentina after over 3 months on the road from Canada, now looking at flying me and bike home from BA May 19, or possibly riding back as far as Colombia at least if I can find a riding mate...though I have been riding solo mostly so far. Right now I am mending my body a bit after taking a spill on bad mountain road in Bolivia.
Anybody interested in this riding north through Brazil idea, at this time?

I'm already riding north through Brazil at this time, but I'm not hard to catch, given I'm mostly bobbing and weaving in any direction but north. The general idea is Belem, then the Guyanas, Venezuela, Colombia, homewards....in that order, I think.

Currently a month/five thousand miles out of B.A., but am again heading south not too far from Rio.

I wasn't quite sure where you were? When do you plan to hit Belem? How are roads, and is it the rainy season? So you going Belem to Manaus on Amazon and to Guyanas? I thought the roads to Guyanas non-existant or bad, at best seasonal. What you riding?
If I do this I would want to make relative haste and be in Venezuala/Colombia a month from now, or from my tune-up in BA.\

I'm in Minas Gerais, heading south towards Rio (though I'll probably get distracted and turn northwards again before I get there). Then Salvador (and other Bahia), Belem, French Guiana, Suriname, British Guyana, back into Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia..... It's all just a concept until it happens.

Roads are mainly quite paved, hence fine. When not paved, they get sloppy when it rains, which it very rarely does. Maybe it's rainy season elsewhere, but not here. Big country. Seen quite a bit of dust, and have been wreaking havoc with nice, white hotel towels. Trucks clogging the roads throughout the sugar cane-producing areas in the south. Etc.

A month seems like more or less my schedule, too....but I've already made my pit stop in B.A., and I'm definitely planning the roundabout route back to Colombia. It sounds like some of it might be miserable, but it's a good kind of misery, sez I--most of the miles are paved, and what's not can't be any worse than we've all seen before, can it?

maybe we could meet in Belem when you have done Guyana's....
then boat up the Amazon to Manaus and up to Venezuala. What think? Sounds like you still have some wandering to do.

No; I'm going from Belem to French Guiana, then Suriname, then (British) Guyana, then back into Brazil, then Venezuela. Like that. It's a semi-circle, and obvious on the map.

Too damn much wireless internet here in Brazil. I need sleep.

I don´t have the focus (i.e., the maturity) to blog, and I don´t have the technological interest for SPOT, cellphone, satphone or GPS. I just check in and post randomly when I think I might have something to offer--note that others sometimes disagree emphatically. But there´s information available on the route via Google....some of it on Horizons, some elsewhere, and as I said it´s on any map. Ferry from Belem to Macapa, then onwards. It´s not rocket science.

Hi Mark,
I'm at Dakar Motos now, still thinking about shipping back from here or riding up through Brazil, will probably decide early in the week. I looked at a map and think I see the route you plan to follow through guyanas, etc. Would probably not take more time than the contemplated Amazon cruise to Manaus and then up to Venezuala...depending on what you do along the way I guess. Easy to get visas for those countries at border or need in advance?
Where are you now? Your preference to ride solo or you open to riding mate? Is riding solo in Brazil no problem like most other parts?

Mr. ST, you leaving May 29, like a month from now from Rosario?

It's not going to be as quick as the boat, but it shouldn't take long (famous last words). Suriname visa available in French Guiana, but I'm not Canadian so who knows? Brazil solo hasn't been any problem yet--no other overlanders (they all ship bikes home from B.A.), so be ready for admiring crowds at every gas stop. I ride alone because there never seem to be others going where I want to go, when I want to go there. But I enjoy company when it's available.

Gotta go move my bike before it gets dark. Let me know, and say hello at Dakar Motors for me.

if I decide to do Brazil, and assuming I can get out of here by Tuesday May 4 (after a bit of maintenance on bike) where could I meet up with you. I was hoping to do the Falls on the way up. Would you still be around Rio? Oh I got an invite from Reginaldo to stay at his place in Curitiba...says you stayed there also.

I'm flying into Buenos Aires on May 16th and taking a bus to Rosario, which is where my bike is stored. I plan on changing tires, doing a few short trips (maybe to Dakar Motos) then leaving on May 29th to head to the Falls. If your around I'd love to meet and chat about your adventures to date.

Do you know if Annette Peasons damaged DR650 is still at DakaMotos? She crashed last December and has it stored there.

I think I see one under the cover...does it have a Jesus on the front fender?

North Brazil
 

Myself and my two other Australian amigos want to head north from Rio up to Belem probably along the coast.From Belem we will either ferry accross to Macapa or take a boat down to Manaus.Guess we'll just decide once we're there...thats generally how we operate.Also depending on if i can extend my 30 day Brazilian visa in Rio or not.We will aim to leave on around the 20th may from Rio.Its a fairly loose plan rigth now but anyone who wants to join us is welcome...more the merrier!
