RTW planning
 

Hi guys,

I started to plan a RTW trip and for the moment I'm trying to make a budget for this trip. The biggest problem for the moment is to estimate the bikes shipment to America. At this moment I'm not sure how to go, the only clear thing is that we want to leave Romania, Europe in the spring. Probably April or march. We don't have a fix plan so we are open to options regarding where to start, it can be South America in the beginning or North America as well....

Reading a lot on this topic I discover that there are split opinions regarding if it's a good idea to ship the bikes by ship or by air ... what are the most friendly entering ports in South America...

We are open as well regarding expedition city from Europe, apparently there are little chances to have a good price if I want to send the bikes from Bucharest so ...

Can you please give some advisees ?

Where
if you go to the southern hemisphere you get winter, if you stay in the northern hemisphere you get summer. Fairly clear choice - stay in the same hemisphere, when the end of summer comes go to the other hemisphere for another spring /summer season.

How
Air is popular as there is little chance of delay and little chance of added fees.
Sea looks to be cheaper ... untill you add in costs of delays, additional fees that don't get stated when you start out.

{edit} Cost minimization hint - ship from one 'hub' to another 'hub'. A 'hub' is a place where things get shipped without going through another port, this minimizes handling as there are no transfers. "Hubs' exist for air and sea.
