motorbike rental in Jordan?

Hi there,

In a few weeks time I'm heading for two weeks to Jordan. I'm thinking about renting a motorbike for a centrain amount of time. (couple of days till a week). Does anyone knows some reliable places to rent a motorbike and/or if it is possible at all?
What do they charge and what kind of wheels do you get under your bum?
Well, if you have some info please let me know.
Thanks for the effort.

Greetings, Roland

Out of Question! ... its banned by law to own motorcycle in Jordan ... it means no Jordan citizen can own a motorcycle .. and since they cant own it, they cant rent it.

Interesting, but thats the way it is.

according to jordanian law, all motorcyclists are drug dealers or terrorists.... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif no kidding! hence jordanians are not permitted to ride a bike! we foreigners are of course permitted to enter with our own terrorist/drug vehicles!

That's funny, The king has a fleet of Harly's that he takes out every once in a while.

Ironic, innit?

The ironic part is that Jordan's king Abdullah himself is a big fan of motorcycles. He owns a HD he just rode in South Africa. And you see the king's pictures in every office or most of shop in Jordan. :)

Still I got so say Jordan is becoming very modern recently, if not the best in the arabic part of the region, you can see it especially coming from Syria in comparison, and I think MC or scooter rentals will be (or maybe already are) inevitable there.

Just fabilous country to ride around! :)

The most funny thing about this ban is ...

The previous king (Husseyin) was not only a great fan of motorcyles, he was also sky diver, scuba diver, rally pilot, jet pilot ( air force type fighter types ) ....

But .... he decided that driving motocycle was very very dangerous and to protect his people he banned it, and therefore my mom loves him .... :)

motorbikes in Jordan

Hi Pol!
I have worked and lived several years in Jordan, the bikes you see riding around belong to companies, so if you work for a company try to convince them to make a bike part of your pay package ;-))) I had a new motorbike shipped to me in Jordan from Belgium but with belgian license, no big deal nor very expensive.
Good luck,
Eduard

afaik once upon a time there was an assassination attempt on the king(?) by a biker, and since then bikes are banned there.

but by what you say I understand that there is no problem to ride a foreign reg bike? didn't knew that, I thought you need to get a special permission. Can you give more details about it?

cheers

Seems things are changing

the frustration being that it was under my nose all this time.

Syria? Same issue. Banned as well.

When I got to Jordan for the first time in the middle of the night through a small border post, I got a one-month permit, but it was pain in the ass to extend it for another month. When I re-entered for the next time in mid-day, I only got a three-day transit permit, no chance to negotiate, and I could only extend it for another week, nothing more.

Simmo, I am arriving in Amman next Friday and visiting for about a week. Would dearly love to hire a bike to see the country. Based on your message, sounds like you may have found a solution -- do you have any info on bike rentals? A 250cc would be just fine for me! Thanks in advance, E.
