2nd Northern Mini Meet? Late September/Early Oct?

Ladies and gents
Anyone up for this? The meet at Blakey in April was great. Anyone interested in doing the same (location?) or similar? I am away all summer and busy in early September.

Earliest I could do is 16/17 or 23/24 September, or first weekend in October. How does this fit in with you? Brad, if it was again at Blakey, are you able to go/organise things with the landlord?

Ride safely,
ChrisB

Jake 10 Jul 2006 22:12

Chris, I can never refuse a meet up, have just got back from a run out in Norway - superb weather instead of the usual rain. I also will be unavailable again for most of aug and maybe some of september, But late september sounds good. If I can I will start to sort it out in september depending on the interest shown ! Brad.

davidlomax 10 Jul 2006 22:36

Any chance of an Early Oct.....I'm away until Sep the 29th....

Cheers,

Dave

Von Ryan 10 Jul 2006 22:37

Chris
I am next Village to you where is Blakey:confused1:

anyhow I would be up for this late Sept/Oct

Atwoke 11 Jul 2006 00:03

Since I did return from South America I might as well meet up with the rest of the nutters....

Count me in!

:thumbup1:

Mick O'Malley 11 Jul 2006 07:52

Hi Chris

I missed the first one as it clashed with the Tesch, but would be well up for any of the dates mentioned, apart from 23/24 Sept.

Regards, Mick

Fritz 12 Jul 2006 14:06

Is this The Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge N Yorks ? If so just up the road from us and wouldn't miss if here at time. If here could assist, but planning a trip to Romania in Sept, and away for a wedding early Oct. Will follow with interest

Jake 12 Jul 2006 17:38

fritz yes its yhe lion at blakey -why did you miss the first one cos it was there also in spring ! anyway it looks like it will be October maybe about 2nd weekend gives everyone time to get sorted and back from travells etc.

Hows everyone else feel about the 1st or the 2nd weekend October. Jake

Von Ryan 12 Jul 2006 17:46

Oct 1 or 2 week ok for me back from Norway etc then
I know where Blakey is now :blushing:

as A Newbie I might learn a fing or two

chris 12 Jul 2006 21:43

Either the 1st or 2nd weekends in October are fine with me.

Greetings from Granada, Andalucia. Off to Portugal tomorrow. It´s so hot down here.

Atwoke 13 Jul 2006 12:46

1st and 2nd weekend of October are currently free.

If it's 14th (can't make 7th w/e) may be able to assist in some way - we're in Thirsk

Debz 13 Jul 2006 14:33

Hi there, we'd be interested in going along & helping out anyway we can, although running (or should that be jogging/walking/crawling?) Great North Run 1st week Oct. Glad you had good weather in Norway Brad.

Iain & Debz

Jake 13 Jul 2006 17:27

Fritz we will let you off this time!,
jens convoy sounds good and I have fixed my silencer now - I had a crack in the header pipe making it a blatt a bit worse than normal so you wont be deafened this time.Jes Also did you see my message to you re: the triumph ! BRAD.

shandydrinker 19 Jul 2006 19:24

I'd be interested in late Sept or Oct, but not staying on cola all night this time!

How about another venue, Blakey is just tooo close to me, nice to have a change of scenery.

Phil

Atwoke 19 Jul 2006 23:48

I bought some earplugs just in case!:innocent:

Yes, saw your pm and replied. Triumph is still for sale :crying:

oldbaldrick 24 Jul 2006 10:42

Hi Guys,
I thoroughly enjoyed the meet in the spring.
I shall be in India for most of Sept, so would prefer early October.
Having used the Lion at Blakey Ridge, why not relocate to somewhere else? How about somewhere the other side of the Pennines? Cumbria, for example?

Atwoke 24 Jul 2006 13:04

Funny you should mention that, Baldrick..

Brad/Jake and I had the same thought and I just spend the weekend investigating pubs in Northumberland and the Borders - again. It was a terrible task to be confronted with, but someone had to do it....

I think I've found a nice one. Just waiting for the confirmation of the camping field being available.

It seems that most people will be back from their travels (or still in UK!) around beginning of October. Therefore, for booking purposes and other benefits (access to Otterburn range!) I would propose to fix the dates to the 7/8 October. Interested volunteers could obviously start on the Friday night...

Does anybody have any objections to moving the venue to Northumberland/Borders?

Any objections to 7/8 October?

Let's have a good one!!

Jens

Fritz 25 Jul 2006 12:29

We're out, at a wedding w/e (not ours, already there), but whatever suits the masses

BDG 28 Jul 2006 18:34

October sounds good to me, if not Northumberland, how about either Tan Hill, the highest pub in Britain just of the A66, or i know a couple of pubs in the lakes which are good (haven't used them for a few years though)

bonzo 4 Aug 2006 09:32

Tan Hill, hmmmm - remember my last night there!Bloody big generator cracking up every half hour.Maybe I didn't quaff enuff..........

andybee 4 Aug 2006 10:36

Hey chaps,

Having not been to a HU meeting before, I'd like to come along to this one, if that's okay? I live in Penrith, which is pretty close to the areas you're talking about, so let me know if I can do anything by way of research etc to help out.

Cheers,

Andy

For some reason every time i've stayed there i've been oblivious to anything, can't think why?

I've heard Tan Hill has new owners, the old lot were great, very helpfull and a right laugh, didn't mind us turning up covered in mud on dirt bikes

Bump.

What's happening? Oct. 6/7/8 is still best for me.

Regards, Mick

Atwoke 31 Aug 2006 12:54

Well done, Squid

Can't believe I didn't update this for so long....

Current status:

Still planning Northumberland on 6/7/8 October.

Unfortunately it cannot be the Rose and Thistle in Alwington as the farmer doesn't want us camping on his land... Strange one, never been a problem before!

I have a couple of alternatives in Northumberland and will confirm final location this weekend, if there are no major objections. I know Tan Hill was mentioned, but it does sound like a noisy old place...

Based on aprils meeting I estimated participation to be between 20 and 30.

Just to check that, Everybody planning to come say 'Ay'!

Chocks away!

Jens

chris 31 Aug 2006 15:22

Ay!
Any location is fine with me.

If there is anything we can do to help out, just shout.

Atwoke 1 Sep 2006 13:00

Thanks for the offer, Ian & Debz.

Since there is very little work involved in arranging a place to camp for a bunch of weirdos, I think I'll be fine. :innocent:

If not I'll get back to you. :biggrin3:

Yeah, I'd avoid the Cola too Phil...and I still can't face a pizza either!

If someone can drive a stake in the ground and confirm a location for the second weekend in October I'd like to come along too.

Joe C90 1 Sep 2006 23:45

Another Newbie

As a regular reader of the website can I turn up too?
I have been mentioed by my now Ex girlfriend, as the guy who jollies around the european winterb bike rallies on a c90 cub.
the second weekend would be perfect timing for me.
Can I suggest the campsite in Dent (Cumbria/N.Yorks area), they are really welcoming to small bike rallies and the beer and food in dent in superb...
Hope to meet you guys at last,
cheers, A:scooter: ndy.

Loved the offroad riding over the Alp's, pizza or no pizza!

Aye, I should be good to go, no cola tho......

Phil

Atwoke 4 Sep 2006 13:52

Andy,
Of course you are welcome!

Joe,
Can't find that campsite on the web. Do you have the name? What's the pub called?

Fritz,
Sorry mate, looks like you will miss out again.

Can anybody who wants to come not make the weekend of 13/14/15 October (I would have to check that weekend with the pub anyway...)?

All,
Current best option from my alternatives list is The Allenheads Inn in Allenheads (NE47 9HJ). It's kind of in the middle of the village, but I have tentative permission from the farmer's eldest daughter for camping in the Triangle Field - 200 yards from the pub. (Field is only ever used for camping - coast2coast, scouts...). Those who do not want to camp have ample options for B&B or Bunkhouses in the villeage.

Good selection of beers, option to pre-order food for quick serving of 20+ people, breakfast £4, and the lovely Allendale valley. Landlord said: "Adventure bikers? Right up my street..."

I guess this is probably right on the border to North Yorkshire???

How would you feel about that?

Jens

BDG 4 Sep 2006 15:18

Ay.

Allenheads sounds nice to me. (Personally makes a change from Alwinton area as i've stayed there loads of times both in the Rose and Thistle and the old Clennell Hall when trail riding) and if the landlord in Allenhead likes Adventure bikes, all the better.

Either weekend suits me at the moment (thats as long as work doesn't throw a spanner in the works)

henryuk 4 Sep 2006 20:59

room for one more?

I might be up for it, if I can get the beast fixed...........

What sort of riding would be involved, only done the heavily loaded 'the tarmacs run out' sort of off-road stuff, but was definitely bitten by the bug and keen to do more.

On that note can anyone reccomend any nice friendly green lanes (now only BOaTs...) in the Peak or near Sheffield?

back to the garage, my luggage racks fell apart when I tried to take them off, didn't realise so many bolts had sheared off.....

Debz 5 Sep 2006 07:30

Either weekend good for us.

Debz

chris 5 Sep 2006 17:39

Either weekend is fine. The later you leave it though, the colder/wetter it'll be...

Let's firm up the date and place soon.

ChrisB

Atwoke 5 Sep 2006 22:48

Chris, you big sizzy, you are not afraid of a bit of wet and cold, are you???

But I agree, if there are no objections I will nail that date to the 13/14/15 for Fritze's benefit (and expect you to be there, Fritz). Benefit of the original date was that Otterburn Range was open (Non-Firing weekend), but Allenheads is about 40 miles from the range, and I am sure there are other good places for a ride out.

Henryuk, just come along. Field will be big enough, I hope, and I am sure they will sort it out in the pub. I guess there will be people on street bikes and might not want to go off road...and I don't know any green lanes in the area anyhow...perhabs somebody else has some ideas?

Jens

Atwoke 5 Sep 2006 22:57

Actually, just confirmed with the Landlord and the Farmer.

13/14/15 October in Allenheads, Allenheads Inn, Triangle Field

I have booked for 20 people butneed to confirm the numbers with them a week or two in advance so they can go food shopping. They will prepare a menue for the dinner on the busy days which we can pick from in advance to make their live easier. Means they can get the right food in and start preparing early so we can eat together.

Once I received the menue I will post it and collect 'proper' bookings.

There will still be room for some people that decide to come on the day, as long as we get the bulk organised....

And yes, everyone is welcome! :thumbup1:

Jens

Fritz 6 Sep 2006 14:08

Excellent

Aye can make the next w/e - may have to arrive Saturday as Bev starts a new job. I assume it's Allenheads up Dumfries way(ish). Sound ! Off to Belgium now ;-)

BDG 6 Sep 2006 17:21

Fritz

I'm not the organisor but i reckon its the Allenheads in Weardale on the B6295 between the A689 in Weardale and A686 upto Haydon Bridge.

Hope so or i'm going to be the one sat all on my own!

Joe C90 6 Sep 2006 17:49

beer ahoy...

am up for it, the c90 was supposed to be in the middle of a pre winter strip down about then, I'll have to turn up on it, even if only for the giggle factor :scooter:

Jens, sorry i have been out of circulation for a while, lost my internet connection and been out of the country and on the road a bit. Will be back in the uk end of September - back into Germany from 18/19 sept for about a week (have to stop off and check out the beer situation again I'm afraid) getting ferry home 25 sept so hopefully be around on the net from then. I will be at the meeting whereever it is see you all there. Jake.

Atwoke 8 Sep 2006 13:33

Well Jake, it's nice to hear you are still alive and enjoying the North. I wish I had the holidays to go home to the Fatherland for a few bevvies, but have just booked my flight for the x-mas hols in South America :cool4: so no holidays left :(

Let me know when and where you are in Germany, I might be able to help with accomodation, contacts...

Count me in for the second weekend Oct. please.
Food also for one (Hope its as good as food at Belgium meet last weekend!)
PS : If you see a low green tent with a MZ next to it - keep well away - I snore, ask Fritz!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best wishes Alec

Alec,

Glad you enjoyed the food in Belgium. Not sure what will be on the menue, yet, apart from the full english.

I shall ask the landlord to send me his proposals and publish them here. Then everybody can preorder and we might get to eat together. At least there will be enough grub...I hope...

Does anybody have any preferences in terms of ride out on Saturday/Sunday? I can't find any greenlanes on the ordonance survey maps for Northern England, so if you fancy that, your input would be very welcome. Otherwise we could just have a run across the penines for coffee on Hartburn Pass and take it from there?

Allenheads is also great for walking, so if you prefer a 'walk out', that could be arranged.

Any proposal will be entertained or made fun off, promised.

Spoke to Brad on the phone a few weeks ago and he told me to check this site for dates etc, I'd really like to meet you all, at the Allenheads Inn - not been before. On the 13th Oct?
Need a good run out! Anyone else from East Yorkshire going?

Many thanks

Ian and Debz,
Any news on the greenlaning?

Still waiting for the menu, guess I give them another call tomorrow...

Jens

patta 25 Sep 2006 22:27

Hi all
The green lanes around weardale and teesdale are not that long but when you put a few of them together it makes for a canny day out, some of the views over the moors are stunning (if its clear).
I will go and see the NERO rights of way officer to find out the state of the local lanes and what TRO,s are in place at the moment. Most off the lanes are not shown on the OS mapes for some reason.
If anyone fancies a road ride out there are some fantastic roads around weardale and teesdale. And don’t forget your only a stones throw from the Lake District and its twisty mountain roads.

Iain

Atwoke 25 Sep 2006 22:58

Good news, Ian.

Looks like we get a game plan with some options going :biggrin3:

Jens

BDG 27 Sep 2006 16:01

I have got upto date info on the surrounding lanes post NERC bill for green laning.

However i really fancy coming up on the Ducati rather than anything off road orientated, and won't be arriving untill late afternoon on Saturday.

Atwoke 28 Sep 2006 19:30

Grub is Up

Finally, the menu proposal has arrived.

Apparently my email provider kept bouncing them...what a pain ISPs can be!

Have a scan through and let me know what you would like to eat. PM would be great. Don't worry about remembering, I shall bring a list...

There should still be other options available, but they would make live more difficult in the kitchen and might take a little longer as they cannot pre-prepare...

The email I received from Ann and Phil today:

Dear Jens
Thanks for your email and phone call.

The Menu:

BREAKFAST
Orange juice
Grapefruit segments
Cereals
Toast
Egg, bacon, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms and sausage
Tea and coffee
£4.50 per head

DINNER
Steak cassarole cooked in red wine served with potatoes and a selection of vegetables.
Home made beef lasagne served with chips, peas and salad.
Chicken curry served with rice, samosa and naan bread.
Roast chicken served with a cranberry stuffing, potatoes and a selection
of vegetables.
£6.95 per head.

All the above work well with large groups as we can prepare up front and
therefore serve all of you as quickly as possible.
For the evening with the smaller group we could also offer sirloin steaks
or gammon steaks served with chips, mushrooms, onion rings and salad.
Steak £10.00 per head and gammon £8.95 per head.
Because all the steaks are cooked to order it is not possible to cook 20
all different and to serve you all at the same time hence offering this to the smaller group only.
Vegetarian dishes available.
If your group have other ideas on what they would like to eat please ring
and we can have a chat about it.
Regards
Ann & Phil

I hope this meets with your approval.

Cheers

Jens

Well, close. Right village, but the Inn is closer to where it says Inn. What a strange coincidence. This is a map with the Pub and the field marked.

BDG 2 Oct 2006 17:19

Jens,

Does it pose a problem for you if instead of just me, there are another 2 or 3 people. One of whom was at Blakey Ridge with me last time.

The plan is to do as much off road as possible and trail ride up from Manchester arriving tea time Saturday. We'll probably be soft and find a B & B because we'll almost certainly be very wet and muddy from the off roading.

Don't know about food yet until i speak to the others.

Atwoke 2 Oct 2006 22:53

Certainly doesn't pose a problem to me. I would think that you will be catered for and there are romms either at the pub, or I could go and find out about the bunkhouses or other B&Bs. Just let me know if you need help.

If you want to eat with the rest, it might be a good idea to preorder...

Ive got accurate maps of all the legal lanes in county durham and most of the north post NERC, so am up for some riding up that way. Unfortunately cant get hold of them until Sunday as im stuck down in Woking working......

Is this the one and only Wonky that slept by the fire at out KTM meet in Derbyshire and made the very early start to go trail riding?

If so look forward to seeing you mate, but get a haircut first please (i'm only jealous coz i've been bald for years!)

Chris returned your pm, but yes i'll wear my sheepskin and say BAAAAA! for you.

Menu

Fritz, Bev

Excellent, looking forward to seeing you guys...

Thought I bump the menu for easier finding:

Email from Ann and Phil:

Regards
Ann & Phil

Original idea was road bike but this has now changed to off roading up from Manchester on WR 450/ XR 650/ XR 400 with a couple of the other guys.

I know full well the effects of drowning my own bike one to many times before in the past, hope your's isn't too bad. See you there.

Put me down for the Gammon & chips on Sat eve and brekky on Sunday.

What time is the off road run on Sat/Sun - is it full on mudplugging or hard trails, as I'm on semi road tyres....

I'm hoping to get there Fri eve or Sat am.

Phil,

I'm trying to get some info on BOATs from Northumberland County Council but can't get hold of THE MAN.

Basically the situation is like this:

There are maps of BOATs but they won't arrive till Saturd avro, since they are 'in the country'. Ordonance survey doesn't show 'any' BOATs in the area, but they do exist. They are reputed to be slow, but I have no infor on the condition.

All hanging a bit in mid air at the mo, but I'll do my best to get some routes to discuss on Friday night.

There are some beautiful spots in the area and I am sure we can get a very nice road trip together, at the very least.

Sorry mate, bit thin on info at the mo.

Jens

Order! Pleeaase!!

Keep the food bookings coming! 11 out of 25 sofar!

Not sure if the same menu applies for the Friday night, but I'm sure if we pre-order early enough (say Tuesday) it shouldn't be a problem. 7 people confirmed for Friday, not a strain on the kitchen I would say.
