solar shower

Hi

I am thinking of buying one of those solar showers for my trip from portugal to dakar.

What do you guys think about it? Has anyone used this kind of bags for quick daily shower?

What are the best?

Thanx,

Renato

I bought a cheap version a couple of years ago. It works well for me. I like to take a shower if I can. If you are worried about bacteria growing in your shower don't. What about your canteen. I grew up camping, was in the Army, and am outdoors to this day a lot and I have never had a problem with bacteria growth in a water carrier, just use common sense. If you are worried put in Iodine or chlorine pills. That will kill virus or bacteria. I always carry water purification pills with me as a backup.

well, 'only' 24 people died here in the Netherlands after visiting a show for (bubble)bathrooms.

cold or hot water is no problem, warm water is.

Freek,

what about the chlorine pills? donĀ“t they kill the bacteria?

besides, the shower is only for that purpuse, not for drinking.

what do you mean "a show for bathrooms"??

thanx,

renato

I think the pills will to the job.

Legionella is only dangerous when you breath it. Drinking it, should not be a problem.

What's a bathroom show ?

It was a big event where bathroom-manufacturers were showing their products.

Legenolla has reared its ugly head at conventions here as well. My brother in law got it a couple of years ago. It is usually due to moisture in a ventilation system where it grows then spreads. One of the best preventions for disease is showering, so the benefits outweigh the risk by far. Also if you don't have chlorine or Iodine pills you can use liquid bleach, that is chlorine to purify water. In the US they use liquid chlorine to treat the drinking water that comes to the house. I believe two or three drops per gallon will work, but I would have to check to be sure.

I think in the UK we call it Legionaire's Disease....

Been quite a few outbreaks of it from Air Conditioning units over the past few years. This one really hit the heasdlines - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2485787.stm
