Yamaha XT600e Year Model???

Hi, I recently bought a xt600e in really good shape, but I want to find out what year model it is. Is there somewhere specific I must check. The VIN# starts with JYADJ and engine J302E. Thanks

A picture would help.

I don't recognise these prefixes.

My brother has the same model (same colour as photo too).

His is a 2002 model.

Its a 4PT model from 1997 onwards.

Im not sure what if any colour changes the 4PT model had through out its life so cant be sure of the exact year.

This model actually started in 1996 taking over from the 3TB model but the first 4PT's in '96 still used the previous engine from the 3TB which has the clutch cable on the left hand side (I know cos its the year/model I have:thumbup1:) but as the photo shows a model with no clutch cable on the left side its definatly a 97 onwards.

If you take the seat off it should have 4PT stamped on top of the airbox and also a sticker with the model number on the CDI unit under the tail piece.

If your looking for parts etc then all models of 4PT from 97 onwards are exactly the same.

Thanks guys, would be nice if Yamaha could stamped the year of manufacture alongside the VIN.:thumbup1:

elv73 19 Mar 2010 13:36

Does it not have the year of manufacture on the v5?

As I said though its not a major issue if you dont know the exact year as the 4PT was the last model that yamaha made and there were no parts changes throughout the life of the 4PT so ordering spares isnt an issue.

I bought my '96 as a stolen recovered wreck and its so far been rebuilt using a frame from a 1998 spanish import, a swing arm and switch gear from a 2003 model, airbox from a 1999 model and a wiring loom made up from the remnants of a 1996 model spliced into a knackered 2003 loom in order to make one decent one!

Thanks elv73, it is just that the insurance lady wanted the exact year.

Ah I see, I would have thought if you give yamaha a call with the frame number they might be able to give you an exact year?

Sorry, ive just noticed that your in SA not the UK. The V5 in the Uk is the log book you get when you buy the bike that states the year of manufacture, not sure what king of registration documents you get in S.A?

I also found this other link:

contradicting each other?
Anyone that knows his bike year date check it and confirm which link is the right one and tell us which link got the right VIN to year!

Neither of these make any sense to be honest. The Wiki answer probably only applies to ATVs and the other one suggests that all XT600Es were made in the same year!
The VIN will contain a letter to identify the year of manufacture, as do all VINs, but perhaps we need a friendly Yamaha dealer or bike shop to reveal it to us.

the decal design changed in 2002 but the chassis no's on RCerrie's bike say that its a 1997 model so i'd say that its a 1997 and someone has replaced the plastics and recovered the seat to make it look like a later model :nono:

RCerrie 23 Mar 2010 12:47

Thanks guys, been confirmed at my local dealer as a 2003 model.
