Xtz 660 ´92
 

I'm going to replace the cluth on my xtz 660 '92. 46000 km. CLutch is working ok at the moment, but am olanning a long trip so I though I would replce before I go.

Questions:
Will I need to replce the metal plates and are the original steel or aluminium ?
Can I get away with just ordering the cork clutch plates and new springs and use the original metal plates?

You would normally just replace the "cork" plates. Although, they arent made from cork lol...

With the steel (engine) plates, you should measure the thickness and check for warping or "blueing".. They usually last the life of the engine unless you're a wheelie freak or a racer..

Same with the springs.. There is a service limit. I don't change clutch springs and I've never had a clutch slip due to this.

You will need the manual for the service limits on the plates and springs.

While the clutch case is off, check the basket for notching..

If it has these notches, they can be files down if they are very shallow but anything more than 1mm deep and the basket should really be replaced as it will only get worse (rapidly), causing your clutch to stick & chatter etc.

Almost identical to original equipment clutch plates the CK series are a cork based product impregnated with aluminium particles to increase wear life and heat resistance.
