xt660r toolkit for morocco
 

Hi, we're hiring xt660r's in morocco for a week (yeah :) ) and I want to take a toolkit to at the very least change tubes. Can someone recommend what tools to take. Cheers

1. Spare tubes.

2. Tire irons (at least two, three are better): Good levers (like Motion Pro’s) make short work of tough sidewalls.

3. Compact bicycle hand pump/or CO2: A manual pump will always pump, but if space is tight, CO2 is more compact or 12v small pump.

4. Valve-stem remover: Speeds up the tire-changing process if the tube isn’t totally flat.

5. J-B Weld: Punch a hole in an engine case and this epoxy can save your day.

6. Tools (specific to your bike): Figure out what size wrenches you need to remove wheels, adjust chain, bars, brakes, levers, bodywork, etc…

7. Safety wire and/or zip-ties: You would be shocked by the things that can be fixed with these items.

8. Duct tape: Peel a couple of feet off the roll and fold it into a nice compact, flat square.

9. Spare nuts and bolts: A few common nuts and bolts can be used for a variety of repairs.

10. Spare clutch and brake levers: Carry one of each. They are easy to break and suck to ride without.

How are you able to use Re-Use this tape when it has been folded over on top of itself over and over and is Sticking to Itself?

Well just try to remove 10cm and put it back, its still sticking or? Its not like the glue is stuck on the wrong side of tape, use som plastick to rap it around from start.

I, personnaly, roll the duct-tape around the side stand. You can put a pretty decent amount of it before it prevent the stand to fold, or the side-stand sensor to work.
also, don't forget the extra-big allen wrench you need to take of your front wheel... It's quite difficult to borrow on the way ! Happened to me when I was traveling with friends, we had everything except this big-ass wrench ... You can always make do sticking a pair of pliers and everything you can find in the hole, but it's not really good for your axle...

I've tried the duct tape round side stand. It works ok, but it can get a bit battered down there after a while. Alternatively, get a piece of fuel pipe or similar, cut as long as duct tape is wide. Cut it along its length, open it up and slip it over your front brake line up by the clocks. Now you can wrap duct tape around it, not too tight so it will still rotate on the hose. You can put a good amount up there, it won't get battered or wet and muddy.
