XT660r Misfire
 

Hi All

i bought this 2004 xt660r last year with 18k on it, the MOTs seem to back this up, it had been used mainly off road for the last couple of years on forrest tracks and beaches, i just use it for some gentle green laning and local quarry use, i have a couple of issues with it at the moment firstly the rev counter part of the digital dash just reads 0 so i fitted an after market one with a wire that wraps round the HT lead, the engine wont rev past about 3200 rpm it misfires like its hitting a rev limiter and its got the usual hesitancy with the throttle at low revs as well, any ideas would be appreciated.

1. check the valve clearances
2. clean or replace the air filter and spark plug +/- the HT lead

Did this occur before or after the tach addition?

Clean the carbs , check the diaphragm for the slide on the second carb for splits/holes . Make sure all jets are open and not plugged with gunk.
