XT600Z generator

After 3 weeks waiting and a phone call to ensure the right generator was being sent, they sent me a generator so far off the mark,I nearly cried.
It's about 2/3's the size of the original and it's only got the 3 phase wires.
I called the supplier and they said it was the correct part,a G09.
It's not.
Has anyone replaced a generator with one that was the same as the original.
Do I have to get a genuine Yamaha part?I'd nearly be better off I think.
It's a '90 3aj,twin headlight,electric start.

Who supplied it????

Have you tried South Country Windings or Electrex World ( Electrical parts for motorcycles - regulator rectifiers generators stators ignition coils lighting coils ht & pulse coils cdi units starter motors rotors ) :thumbup1:

I had the same trouble trying to get a generator for my 3AJ
Electrex sent me a generator it was the right size but the ignition pick up was differnt , I sent it back with my old ignition pick up to see if they could match it, They could not.
I bought a second hand generator and pick up.
If your pick up is ok then you should be able to get your old generator rewound.
I know some one who is breaking 2 3AJs if you want second hand.

I might have one lying about.

Have you got a pic of the old one?

cathal 31 Oct 2009 10:12

Electrex World supplied the wrong one,I called them and they couldn't offer me an alternative.
I'll try Yamaha for a price.
Just for peace of mind,a new one is the best bet.
But if the money is big,I'll go second hand.
I work in a dealers on Saturdays,so hopefully I can get it right.
I'll be back.
Thanks for the info.

Kenny lad

How the hell are ya horsey?
Jaysus, didn't expect to meet you here.
Bought a lovely Tenere in Liverpool,I still have the black one,and the generator is toast.
So just looking to replace it with something that will last.
Plenty of bikes passed through my hands since I met you last.
I take it you're still with the XT,is that the one you bought in Wexford?
What are you at these days?
Good to hear from you.
Cathal.
