XT600E Rear rim repair

Hey guys!

Yesterday I went to replace the tube on my rear tire and I was amazed at the amount of rust there was inside the rim!

I used a steel brush and toke most of the worst rust out.. So I'd thought!
Right now I just got home from a little ride and the tire is flat AGAIN! WTF!!

Has anyone ever repaired the rust from the inside of the rear rim?
How should I do it?

1- Wire brush with the drill everything to take all the rust out and put some Teflon grease?

2- Wire brush with the drill everything to take all the rust out and put some anti-rust paint?

More options?

I take all the rust out with steel brush like you... I then use some sand paper to get it smooth again..

You should get a roll of electrical tape and cover all the spoke nipples with this and forget the crappy rubber strip. Gaffer tape should work too.
