XT600 won't start - PLEASE HELP!
Dear users,
My XT600E won't start, and I'm not sure why. It's been starting fine and I've been riding it, but it sat for 17 days and now won't fire. It has spark, the battery is charged, it has compression, the perol line is fine in to the carb. It just won't fire up! It was sat with the pet-cock on the ON position, but I checked the spark plug and it was bone dry. Any help would be greatly appreciated....bier Thank you |
You have the solution, if its dry you need to remove carb and clean it.

Open the carb drain scew. Does fuel come out ??
Let it drain into a container. Does it keep coming ?? Might just be a bit of an airlock. You could also try spraying some 'Powerstart' into the carb through the airbox. |
Here you can read some about carb fix, http://www..comhorizonsunlimited/hub...-blocked-78917
I dont know about using the powerstart, gives very high temp when bike fire. |
Sounds like a stuck carb needle valve and no fuel in carb bowl. if you get no fuel when opening the drain valve, tap on the side of the carb and see if fuel runs out...
|
If I drag any of my wrecks out that have been stood up for while I usualy lay the bike over on its side for a few seconds or so till fuel leaks from carb overflow..it can sometimes save quite a lot of kicking and getting in a rage with bike..

If I forgot to turn the fuel off the last time I rode it and it hasn't been ridden for a while, I turn the tap off and then drain the float bowl using the screw at the bottom. Do the screw back up, turn the tap on and it starts like I rode it yesterday. |
I dont know whether it works on XT's but whenever I come to start my Moto x bike after not being used for awhile I tip the bike right over till fuel comes out of the overflow pipe then you know you have juice there.

Ok. So this sounds similar to issues I had. You can try pouring a bit of petrol into the head direct to see if she'll fire but your carb needs a good clean and make sure you set the mixture jet correctly. Thats very inportant. I started at 4 turns out and went from there. There is the original thread we posted on here when we had troubles if you search back to January 2014, search "XT600 E Starting Issue Troubleshoot"
To get the carbs out remember to release the airbox and there is just enough room to squeeze them out. |
