XT600 Shockers, Confirm or Deny!

Sorry to keep boring you all with the details of getting "bruce" on the road, but I have a question.

I need a shocker, and spoke to Dave Lambeth about it, his were too dear for my short pockets, but he seemed to tell me that all XT shockers would fit all other XT's. I'm not doubting him, but just worried I may have misunderstood some fine point of model numbers.

Anyway, I have found a 2001 model XT600E mono shock (inc spring) for £80, part number tb003 (or similar - garbled phone message). Will this fit a 1986 Xt600 1vj???

Thanks in advance.

PS could do with knowing by wednesday :)

Hi, from my understanding (bearing in mind I own a Tenere not a 600e) the only difference between the XT600E shock and the Tenere's is that the 600E has no rebound adjustment (I think.).Maybe a 600E owner could verify this?

Cheers Fish.

Definitely no rebound adjustment on standard XT600E shock plus my 600E shock measures 5mm less between centres than a 1VJ. I guess this would translate to approx. 25mm lower back end on bike which could be overcome by winding the pre-load up a bit. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, I've ordered it.

How does one adjust the preload????

Ta,

Two largish nuts on bottom of shock- slacken bottom nut and wind up preload (compress spring) with top nut, once adjusted re-lock bottom nut against top. You may have to experiment with different settings.
