XT600 Engine in an XT350 frame?

Hi guys, I currently have a 1996 XT600e that has previously been used as a field bike and the frame has had a few very bad repairs done to it so im looking for a replacement frame but am having major problems finding one (plenty of older 1vj's etc but cant find any oil in frame models) so was wondering if the 3TB engine would fit straight into an XT350 frame to give me another option to look for?

the 600 motor is a lot taller and the swingarm and pivot is different on the 350 so short answer is no:(

why not use an older frame and just plumb in the oil tank rather than using oil in frame.

I had thought about that but was sure I had read on here that there were other problems with trying to put a newer motor into an older frame?

Would I just be able to swap everything over from the 4PT frame e.g forks, swingarm etc?

If its just a straight swap with a case of having to plumb a new oil tank in then ill hapilly go for that option but just want to be sure that im not going to have to do any major fabrication to make the swap before I go and buy a 1vj frame?

xt 350 engine swap

Hi,
I have an xt 350 with seized engine and would love to replace it with a 500, 550, 600 or 660.I ask too much from the 350. Is it dooable at all? I have potentially a 550 engine 1983 and my 350 is a 1988.
Any ideas/help would be very gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Kenny

I love to see people tinkering around with engines and experimenting with different sets BUT be warned -

Remember that the bike manufacturers have spent much time and money on research and development. They have at their disposal expensive diagnostic equipment (the kind you won't find in a home workshop).

Before you embark upon re-engineering a bike the way you describe here, be aware that your mods may effect the handling of the bike adversely.

I knew of someone who made a trike from 5 old knackered crash damaged (write off) bikes and a VW car engine. The poor guy came off the road on a bend and hit a tree. The coroner's report stated clearly that had he not been riding his trike he would probably have survived the incident. Apparently the bike's handling was non existent and upon hitting the tree it disintegrated! He never stood a chance bless him. To make matters worse he was such a lovely kind chap...

I realise too that nothing would progress (and evolve / improve) if we always took the easy way out....

I wish you well in what you do but please stay safe too. :thumbup1:
