Xt600 e
Hi, My 1998 XT600E has suffered from a bottom end seizure. The counter balance shaft has bent, causing both crankcase to crack, the big end is now stiff and the woodruff keys sheared on either end of the crankshaft.
Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so do you know what caused it please? Also I am now looking for new cases, crank and balance shaft, can anyone confirm which other years/models are compatible please. Many thanks, Regards, Dave. |
Hi Dave,
what usually happens is the crankshaft right side nut comes loose allowing the woodruff key to flog out. Then the balance shaft goes out of synch with the crankshaft. Resulting in what you have. I'm not sure about compatible casings, etc, but someone else will most likely chime in and answer that. Bob |
Hi Bob,
Many thanks for the info. Best regards, Dave. |
Have you considered a donorbike/engine. I think it would be cheaper in the long run... Try to do the math and see what the different solutions come out at.

Hi Jens, thanks, I agree, I would prefer a complete engine if possible, but I have seen several sets of crankcases for sale and wondered if they were compatible. Thanks again, Regards, Dave.

Hi Mezo, I've listened to the YouTube clip, this is exactly the noise started making sometime before seizing up. I wish I had found your message then, went to the local Yamaha main dealer and they were no help at all!!! Many thanks, regards, Dave. P.S. Do you know which cases are compatable with my bike please?
