XT600 cross model compatibility? 34L - 3EW

Hey all. So I had(have) an 84 34L Tenere while living in Ghana. Well I'm back in the states now and I've been dreaming of riding my Tenere every day... It's just such an amazing bike.. so I've been looking for an XT600 here and I've finally found a good example. It's an '89 XT600W 3EW. I brought back a lot of the little maintenence parts for the 34L like oil/air filters, spark plugs, wheel bearings and stuff like that. How much of it will work for a 3EW? Any major differences between the two models (other than the usual Tenere differences of course)

I'm going to go check out the bike on Tuesday so I'll report back with photos!

Thanks!

P.S. This is also posted on Tenere UK

All the motor stuff will be the same , controls basically the same . Main differences would be the tank, seat, and plastics otherwise those 2 bikes are pretty close . Air filter I don't know .

The 86 600Z Tenere had an electric and kick starter. Before was only kickstarter. After only electric start. They also moved the air cleaner from below the seat to on top of the engine under the tank in 86. To keep the tank the same capacity without making it wider, they had to drop the sides. This brought the fuel taps under the carbs, so it meant they had to fit a fuel pump. It also restricted airflow over the head and cause some overheating issues, which included engine/head bolts pulling/stripping out of the crankcase. They addressed this in later models.

So although the basic design of the engine/bike remained the same, there are small differences which could lead to compatibility issues (e.g. slip gear, starter, engine bolt lengths etc.).

However, I cannot comment too much on different models for different countries. some info here on that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_XT_600
