XT600 clutch case cover stuck

Hey all
I'm trying to change the clutch plates on my Tenere 34L in preparation for an overland trip but the cover seems to be stuck! There is definitely signs of old gasket goop sticking out at a few locations.
Any tips on removing it with just regular tools?

Thanks!

edit: noob question I know but I don't have a lot of tools at my disposal :rolleyes2:

I had the same problem on my XT. I used a rubber mallet and very gently tapped it on the side until it came loose. This may not be the best advice but it worked for me. Good luck.

First be 100% sure all bolts have been removed, then use a razorblade where you see the old gasket goop. http://www.techniedge.com/products/s..._blades_tools/

A rubber mallet is my go to when a side case is stuck but alas I don't have a rubber mallet. I'm in Ghana so I'll walk around to the myriad of motorcycle "shops" and see if I can get something. I was just posting here just in case anyone had any specific tips for the XT!

I think xtrock's idea is probably far more sensible :-)

Hey Ardo, if you don't have a soft blow/rubber mallet, theres always putting a thick towel/multiple cloths on top and tapping with a hammer, or whatever you can get your hands on. You mentioned you were in Ghana? I was about to say try and apply some wd40 or pb blaster (my favorite) and let that soak in for a couple minutes and give another soft taps to see if you can't shake it loose.

Managed to secure a hammer and piece of rubber. With some accurate tapping it worked perfectly. Now have the cover off!

I'd like to get at the oil pump to upgrade to the 1VJ pump I got while I'm in here, but it looks like you need to remove the clutch basket, is this correct? What size is the nut? I don't have a socket the right size with me, but I might be able to get one from the local shops.

And sorry for double post, but the kickstarter gear has a fair bit of side to side play. As in I can wiggle it a bit. Is this normal or should it be tightened somehow?
