XT600 43f Mikuni VM33 carburetors

Hello,
I was curious if anyone is running VM33s on their old Yam XT600. Im getting ready to upgrade the carbs and prefer the straight pull VMs to the BSR33s which are the more common replacement.
Thanks

with straight pull VM33 you will have to build your own mechanism to open both carbs... not rocket science but a bit of a project.

really doubt anyone here will be able to tell you about his experience with them

there are some ready to mount kits, not cheap

Yes I am well aware of the popular options. CR series are very nice carbs, but overpriced. As far as bolt on replacements go, I would consider the Raptor BSR33 conversion before any of those you listed. The idea is to find something simple and tunable, so the opposite of the stock YDIS system.

I don't see much of an issue with mounting straight pull carbs, aside from the split cable, and I would have that made.

So my question(s) is this:
Has anyone ran VM33s on their early model XT600? What is your experience with tuning? Would a smaller VM series be more appropriate?

Its more of a solution oriented question as opposed to an existential "tell me why I shouldn't" type question.

if you want a cheap solution, kawasaki ninja 250 CV carbs are also a proven mod fit

the reason i wrote that "doubt anyone here will be able to tell you about his experience with them" is that traffic in this forum has dwindled to very little last year and i cant even recall a member here that put VMs in his xt.

that said, i build road racing vintage bikes, often used VMs and they are indeed easily tunable, so no reason not to try, but i would go with smaller bore than 33 for better down low throttle response.

the bummer in all these carb swaps in XTs is the connection to the air filter, youll see :)

i think youll find more info in the xt600 thread in advrider forum rather than here
