XT1200Z Panniers and Other Things XT1200Z!

I'm getting very close to saying "Yes, I'll have that XT1200Z!" :mchappy:but before I do, has anybody got any experience of the Yamaha panniers and basically, are they worth having? My trusty old XT600Z has Touratech boxes mounted on an indestructible frame made by Ernie at Overland Solutions which have crossed the Sahara and circumnavigated South America and taken everything those trips could throw at them (sometimes literally!). And, while I'm at it, is there anything you S10 (yep, I've picked up the jargon already!) owners can tell me about the bike which might sway me even more? In particular, has anybody junked the "cat" so the bike can run on leaded petrol - the only type of fuel available in some parts?

I've got the Yamaha panniers on my 660 Tenere, and as far as I can tell they are the same sort of construction for the 1200.

From my POV, they're better than the internet might lead you to think, and I've been happy with them for ~10,000 miles worth of use, but I'd probably not buy them with my own money (mine came with the bike, along with most of the Yamaha accessories catalogue - the previous owner must have taken a massive hit when he sold it to me with less than 3000 miles on :D).

Effectively, if the dealer is throwing them at you as a sweetener on the new bike, then they're probably worth having. If they're expecting you to pay RRP on them, then I'd politely decline and get someone to make up a rack to take your current TT panniers.

panniers

Hi, i would agree with Dash, they look identical to the XT660Z Yamaha panniers which don't get great press. I however am on my second set (first sold with 1st XT660Z) and am very happy with them. Early model panniers for the XT660Z had issues with the locks & keys but this seems to have been resolved. i have found them to be 100% waterproof. Andy
