XT 600E Oil filter housing cracks

Just changed the oil filter on my 2006 XT600E (4PT) and noticed some hairline cracks in oil filter housing, where the rear of the oil filter seats. :(Has anyone else had this problem? Does it get worse? Should I change the RH engine cover which includes the oil filter housing? Would it be a good oppurtunity to add a kickstarter and how tricky is that to do?
Really grateful for any advice.

I have seen cracks on a range of older Jap bike casings - all with NO adverse effects.

If it is going to be a worry - then to play safe you would be better off replacing it, just in case, but IMHO it should be fine :thumbup1:

You could try getting hold of a decent 2nd hand casing & see if that looks any better, first :eek3:

Thanks

Thanks for advice.Next big off road trip is June 2010(Mexico to Canada along the Continental Divide) so I will keep an eye on the case and if the cracks don't get bigger I will leave it.Bike has had its share of river crossings and extremes of temperature, not to mention the odd..er ..unplanned dismount!
Thanks again.
