XT 600E 2002 Help Wont rev past 5000 RPM
Hi Guys ,
Im not sure if this is normal however my XT 600 E 2002 will not rev past 5000 RPM in any gear without any major valve bounce , it really struggles past this point . Is this a common thing for the XT not to rev to redline or do i have a problem and what might the cause of it be ? |
valve bounce?
What exactly do you mean by valve bounce?
And how do you know it's 5000 rpm, these things don't have revcounter as far as I know? Does it run and pull ok before this 'valve bounce' occurs? Auke |
Mine has a rev counter.....2002e in blue....

2nd Carb
Surely this is likely to be the second carb not coming in properly? Diapragm u/s parhaps? The other likely reasons are an air flow blockage or fuel starvation. I suggest a close examination of the carbs and air filter - float level, diaphragm etc. Maybe even rust in the tank preventing fuel getting through.
Like others, I'm not sure what you mean by valve bounce. That simply won't happen at 5,000 rpm. Unless you're mistaking it for a really slack tappet. Geoff |
From 1996 (I think) and up, theres a tach.
Sounds very much like you need to look at the secondary carb (right one) and or check fuel flow, like previously suggested. Good luck. |
Hi Guys ,
Yes the bike is equipped with a rev counter . The bike just seems to run out of any usable power above 5000 rpm . The bike shakes and vibrates and the engine feels like it wont rev anymore . Has anyone encounted this problem before , or as suggested would it be more than likely a carbie issue ? |
Hi Guys ,
I think i may no what the problem is the the bike has only one throttle cable fitted at the moment , im told it should have two cables . Would this affect the second carby not coming working hence my limited range of rpm ? Any help would be appreciated guys . |
The second cable is only there to helt clos off the throttle.
I need to be sure. Does it rev past 5000, but without much power there or doesnt it rev past 5000 at all in any gear? The bike has allmost no power after around 6000, but there is a slightly "hit" at around 5500rpm, otherwise not much happens up there on a stock bigbore thumper like the xt600. Did you clean youre carb? |
I had something similar to this on mine. Turned out that the filter under the float valve was clogged. The bike struggled to rev as it was fuel starved.
Like folks have said, get that carb checked and cleaned. Make sure the fuel is clean and fresh and flowing freely too. Ted |
