XT 600 with identity issues

I'm starting to think my XT 600 is a bit of a mongrel. The ID plate on the headstock shows it to be a 3TB but the model ID under the seat says it is a 4PT which makes me think two frames have been joined at some point. It was first registered in 1997 and I have read that the 3TB was discontinued in 1996. I guess it could have been hanging around the dealership for a while. My question is: Is it a 4PT with bits of a 3TB added to it or the other way round? The numbers on the cylinder head are 3AJ00 and 2KF if that is any help.

Whats the VIN on the logbook say ?

And also Date of first registration ?

I can't find the VIN. It's a Portuguese logbook so very different to the UK one. The closest it has to a VIN is a 16 digit number with no letters in it. I've checked the plate on the headstock and there is no VIN there either. All I know for sure is it was first registered on 8/4/1997. But I have researched further and found this: https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/...el-prefix.aspx which explains (I think) that the 3TB and 4PT (with a 5 added on to the end of it) codes are entirely consistent with a 1997 XT. So it looks like it's my ignorance of codes that's at fault here and not a chopped up bike (phew).

The 4pt have a different frame rear, 3tb use exhaust as frame support. So if you look on the right side do you have support on the rear frame? Do you have rev counter? The engine is different too, 4pt have clutch arm on the right side.

Thanks for the pointers xtrock and bobmech. From the info you supplied it looks like a 4pt - clutch on the right, exhaust separate to the frame and a rev counter - but for some weird reason the ID plate on the headstock (and the list of model codes shown on the Tenere forum) show it to be a 3TB. I guess it must have something to do with it being sold in Portugal. Anyway it's reassuring to know the bike is probably intact and not the product of some chop shop.
