Xt 600 Performance

Im not wanting to improve or modify so hear me out! Recently bought a second hand 2006 xt600 and want to ensure that it is running properly.

I know it might not be the best way to determine this but I have seen people saying that it will power wheely in 1st and 2nd but im not getting this! Crack it open and u get a reasonable surge of speed but the front wheel definitely isnt pointing up.

Are people simply over exaggerating here, is it normal or have the done some kind of basic mods?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Im in england and its a grey import from Switzerland (I think, dont have the manual at hand)

sit further back in the seat, and tug on the bars if necessary. try not to fall off.

They certainly will not power wheely in first, never mind second, and mine has one tooth less on the front sprocket to help the acceleration.

Your bike is as it should be if it pulls briskly and smoothly.

it will lift the front wheel in first, and second, with no clutch (mine did). depends on technique, rather than pure power, which is why it's no real measure of performance.

Good stuff, exactly the answers I was hoping for! Good to know that under normal circumstance and no technique it wont but it is possible. I'm new to riding on the road so if I say something daft just yell :P

Loving the bike so far, passed my test 5pm thursday by friday 10am had put about 130 miles on it :D So strange coming from a 125, to start with really felt like I had to really muscle it round the corners, adjusting my style to it now and its really quite easy to get the speed up round the twisties!

Was quite happily keeping up with my mate on his 33bhp restricted GSR-600 earlier and had great fun down the green lanes and sandy woods! :funmeteryes:

I have only ever once pulled a wheelie on mine. Purely by accident, through an appreciative crowd of French picnicers (at least I assume they were mouthing appreciative comments). It was loaded up with luggage though, so this would have helped get the front wheel up.

To be honest, I see this as a good thing!

Matt :)

Your bike sounds FINE. My bike (5,000 miles 1999 model) does NOT wheelie easily either but gives a fair amount of torquey pull when wound open. Providing you get that instant turn of speed when the throttle is wound right up, I shouldn't worry.

Hi there. It's all about the technique. I can only wheelie in 1st gear on my 1990 XT600E but my brother can do it in 3rd without hassle...

if you wanna see him on my other bike..2002 DT125R check this movie:

YouTube - SERPA

he first tried in 5th gear but was to slow because of the other bike(if not the other bike could not follow my 125 lol) then in 4th....

a few weeks ago he was wheeling at 130km/h (end of 5th gear) he has never tried in 6th tho...it's just too much speed....

He does great wheelies but I can't stand hearing or seeing him wheeling, my heart just starts pumping really fast....:rolleyes2:
