xt 600 gear change pedal/lever

i want to change the standard steel gear change lever to an alloy one preferably with the fold up tip, i've done a search on here but can't find anything. :(

has anybody found an aftermarket or anything off another bike that will fit ?

cheers

wolfzero 23 May 2009 13:16

over 50 views and still nobody has come up with an alternative to the crappy steel lever.

Jens Eskildsen 23 May 2009 14:14

Find a friend, whos got a friend, and let them weld one together for you. It's a pretty simple thing.

wolfzero 23 May 2009 14:46

i can make one myself if needed, but i'd like to be able to use an aftermarket alternative if available.

Yobbo 23 May 2009 21:14

I use an aftermarket YZ250 lever, not alloy but has a folding end like you want.

Pretty sure it's an 02 YZ250 one. It's a cheap Emgo branded one,not sure if you have those over there. As long as it has a 12mm hole for the shift shaft,it'll work.
I've added a pic of the spare one I have,as my bike is in being "fixed".

wolfzero 24 May 2009 09:07

looks a lot more cranked than the original how far does it stick out when fitted is it much more than the oe one

Yobbo 24 May 2009 09:16

Hmm thats a good point.
I have a 1VJ,so I'd imagine all electric start XTs have a wider case for the starter gear etc.
It has about 20-25mm clearance off the case from memory - Can't go measure as I don't have my bike here, but I'm sure thats about right. That one in the pic had been bent slightly inwards due to a few offs.

wolfzero 24 May 2009 18:54

stator cover is about the same on the e models so that shouldn't be an issue.

just removed mine and put it on the floor it to do a comparison looks like the yz lever is bent more like an s and the xt is kinda straight but the offset looks pretty close so i'll risk getting one for my 600e and see what happens :rolleyes2:

thanks for the info yobbo :thumbup1:

Hi,

I don't know if this is of interest?
MotoWard Shop

Is the YZ250 gear-lever the right shape?

Geoff

bolla 24 May 2009 21:06

I have a TTR 600 (kick start) that has a alloy folding lever I think its an oringal part,
not sure if the TTRE has an alloy lever as standered but the engine is much the same as a later XT600e.

wolfzero 25 May 2009 00:13

thanks geoffe i already ordered one off fleebay the yz one looks like it is more curvy than the xt but the toe looks like it still ends up in the same position i'll post results when it arrives :rolleyes2:

bolla not sure on the ttr lever, i was hoping somebody had confirmed the ttr lever fitted the xt as that was the whole point of posting this thread.
that is also why i replied to my own thread to increase the views :cool4:

bacardi23 26 May 2009 07:09

Very interesting! Don't forget to post back when you get the part from fleebay!!!!

That's one of the things I want get for my XT :P

Vando ;)

wolfzero 27 May 2009 20:13

the yz lever arrived today unfortunately the offset is not enough to fit the 600E motor
looks like its back to the drawing board :(

bacardi23 29 May 2009 09:07

Hey there! and how about the splines, do they match?

Vando :innocent:

wolfzero 29 May 2009 13:35

splines match but the offset is not quite enough to clear the engine case its about 10mm different than the oe lever. :(

looks like i'm gonna be busy with the milling machine again :rolleyes2: yet another bespoke piece on the beast, at least the battery box fits and i can start her up again :thumbup1:

Yobbo 29 May 2009 22:36

I found a picture and part number for the Emgo one I'm using, took a while but found it in the end.
Have a look here Parts Unlimited Offroad 2008

It's part # 1602-0061.
All the other aftermarket ones I've seen online have been a different shape. They seem to curve out from the shift shaft like a banana rather than angled out like my one.

wolfzero 30 May 2009 11:26

thats still a steel one tho i can do a funky one myself in steel i'd like a billet alloy one but i've broken my mill again

bacardi23 30 May 2009 17:32

Hey there.

GeoffE do you have that shiffter on your bike?

Yobbo:
I've went through that website's checkout system for that part# 1602-0061 and in the checkout it mentions the Yamaha OEM part# as 5UL-18110-00-00.

That part number is the same for the following bikes/years:

WR250F, WR450F and YZ250F 2003-2006.
the part number for the YZ450F is different!!!!!!!!!

I do not dare to garantee that this company's gear shifter pedal is exactly the same shape (angles and countours) because I haven't compared either of them eye-to-eye ....

Hi 'bacardi23',

The answer to your question is "no".

A previous post mentioned the YZ250, and I knew MotoWard offered an Alloy Gear Pedal for that model.

I did not know if it fitted our XTs, and asked about the shape.

Our XTs engine casing is an awkward shape, and I was not sure we would find an Alloy gear pedal with a folding lever. However the TTR600 kickstart model was mentioned - 'bolla', any chance of a photo?

Thanks,
Geoff

Hi,

I found this catalogue which offers an Alloy TT600 '88-on gear pedal. See page 10 and item LVR-YG08F. What do you think?
