xt 600 front end noise

xt 600e there is a noise just started on my front end , which is intermitent and only happens when accelerating , i can only describe it as a bang or twang , but i can also feel it through the handle bars , i have checked the bearings which are fine , the only thing i can think is the spokes ? anyone come accross this ?

Could very well be the spokes.....
Go around the wheel & pluck 'em to have a listen for the same tone from each.:wink2:

I had something very similar to that..
Spokes, wheel and neck bearings were all in good shape...

Ended up replacing my front end with one off a 2002 YZ250 the noise pointed to mechanical failure so to avoid any crashes like one I've seen off a BMW rider... no thank you...

Hijack!

how easy was it to fit the Yz front end Vando?

I'm looking to fit a 99 Yz250 set up to a 3yf,and starting to try sort the bearings and stuff.

Are you running the Yz front wheel/brake as well?

Hi Andy!

well, it was pretty easy infact..
All you have to do is press out the YZ's bottom steering bearing and press in the XT's bottom steering bearing on to the steering stem...

After that you have to slide in the front suspension with the lower triple clamp on to the frame and see how much you have to machine the steering stem so the XT's top steering bearing slides further enough so you get a good lock without gaps.

After that, you'll have to machine some thread right above where the top steering bearing spins (it has to be above!) so you can use the locknuts to tighten everything in place!

Last part is to fit the top triple clamp and tighten everything in place...

And yes, I used the whole front end including brakes and wheel!
